Obama: Military Overburdened in Iraq, Afghanistan

RACINE, Wis. (AP) - President Barack Obama says U.S. troops are carrying too much of the burden in Iraq and Afghanistan and doing too many things that are more appropriate for civilians, such as buildings schools and setting up justice systems.

Obama says the problem is that the U.S. doesn't have a civilian effort as large as the military.

He wants to change that by building up a "civilian expeditionary force" that can go into an area once the U.S. military deems it safe to do the work of building roads, bridges and schools and setting up civil societies.

Obama said that's one reason he's increased military pay while holding the line on domestic spending.

Obama commented Wednesday during a town hall meeting.

So many issues here....and, can you believe he has the gall to tell the audience in WI that he's "holding the line on domestic spending."?

Overburdened? When Democrats said this before it’s because Bush and Rumsfeld didn’t send enough troops and were trying to do something on the cheap. What’s the excuse now?

....he’s cross this street so many times he’ll get his own crosswalk. Typical Obama, can’t stay focus and can’t deliver what’s best for America. Incompetence reigns supreme. Above his pay grade.

I think he’s preparing to re-introduce the draft.

It’s part of his Service for America Plan, or whatever he calls it.

You either join the military, or you join ACORN, or some other communist agitprop organ.

All the pie-eyed lefties and commies will gladly join the commie organizers.

The patriots don’t need a draft to join the military.

Has he checked with Halliburton?

Civilians? Like the Peace Corps, only in a war zone. That’s a real gem of an idea, O-bamie. No guns, I assume, except nail guns. Probably no nail guns, no electricity.

This is the beginning of his “just as strong” people’s army he talked about before he was elected, which the media ignored.

Obama youth, loyal to their chieftain.

Maybe the Acorn folks can go into the war zone and build infrastructure? Kill two birds with one stone.

The biggest burden on our fine military is an incompetent marxist muslim crack-smoking CIC.

I’m not sure that he needs to do that....after all, he owns student lending now. Can’t repay? You WILL join Obamaforce for 2-4 years of duty for the government to call it “even.” Builds his private army...and keeps young grads off the unemployment rolls.

It's hostile territory. They need military for defense no matter who builds the bridges and schools.
The 60's peaceniks who trained 0bama would have us believe that all we need for peace is for the soldiers to leave.
It's not that simple.
Besides, the Afghans should build their own bridges.

To be fair, this is a fundamentally GOOD idea. It is a waste of the military to be doing nation building—it is best left to civilians. Military will still be needed to protect the civilians, but that is still a manpower savings. The only problem: I don’t trust Obama to do this right. He will probably use it as a mechanism for indoctinating the locals in Communism.

Say Barry, have you heard of the Taliban and Sharia law? Do you think the Taliban might have issues with civilians building schools? Haven’t they had issues with educating the public in the past? Particularly girls?

Take your time, Barry. Go ahead and tee off before you answer. I’ll order some sherbet for you.

Gee, I wonder what other kind of domestic projects he has in mind for a new force that bypasses the military command structure and answers directly to the WH?

And NOW we find the US military was NEVER consulted on the withdrawal plans... starting to sound like ‘Nam more everyday:
