One Arizona politician has made a vow to make illegal immigrants powerless -- literally.
Republican Barry Wong, a candidate for the Arizona Corporation Commission, an elected body that decides public utility issues, says he would require the utilities to check the immigration status of customers, he told the Arizona Republic.
"I'm sure there will be criticism about human-rights violations," said Wong, who held a temporary spot on the five-person Commission in 2006. "Is power or natural gas or any type of utility we regulate, is that a right that people have? It is not a right. It is a service."

Good idea.
I like the way Barry Wong thinks! Doubt it’ll get traction though.
yes..but why not bust them first
He is obviously “anti-immigrant” (despite the fact that his parents immigrated from China.) /sarc

“Arizona immigration law backer politician Barry Wong wants to cut power from illegal immigrant homes”
Cruel and unusual...
>>>yes..but why not bust them first<<<
Fair point, but I see no problem with every area of government doing what it can to deal with the problem.
This might be more effective than arresting them, as it is iffy as to whether the Federal government will actually deport them. If local authorities can make it difficult to impossible to obtain their needs, they will tend to self deport by returning home or going to a sanctuary city.
Also, those who have their power shut off, because they cannot prove their immigration status, could be referred to the proper authorities for arrest and (hopefully)deportation.
The only reason this gives me pause is I can imagine DHS doing something similar to people who they deem “domestic terror threats”....what is a “terror threat”? Why anything they decide....
Slippery slope.
Asking for “papers” is different because it deals with citizenship at the core.
If they KNOW they are illegal, they should just be deported.
And yes I know, the Federal Govt isn’t doing that. Maybe Arizona should just start deporting people themselves......to Los Angeles.
Barry Wong should replace RINO Kyl and or McCain. Hopefully the people of AZ dump Democrat MCCain.
Two Wongs do make a right!.................
The leftist support for illegal immigration is about destroying America and getting vengeance against the innocent descendants of the “white invaders of Native American lands”.
Leftists and the south American invaders are pure evil.
From: La Raza
To: Wong: FU................
If this extended to water/sewer it would be way worse. You don't want them all crapping in the back yard. Unfortunately it's coming to doing stuff like this--making their life more difficult---rather that what should be done, arrest them, and deport them.
That’s just Wong!
Don’t stop there...cut the power to the homes of the sponsers/supporters/enablers of invaders. Let’s see...where do those in Congre$$ live? Cut their power in many way$. Curb all unnece$$ary $pending. Move them out of our house and ridicule them on the way out. Remember November.
Nice try but Wong idea.
There is no criminal precursor to asking about ones citizenship status.
Besides, it would be inhumane to cut of the power during the summer.
It gets to the point of unreasonable search, to which all of us would be subjected.
They have no right to demand your papers.
If they are busted and found to be hear illegally fine, deport them but demanding citizenship status, over an elelctric bill is over the top.
Good idea though.
Still, if he wanted to impress me, he would Demand Barry’s proof of citizenship status and define what that proof would be.
This is not a search at all, and even if it was, it is not at all unreasonable. The customer is choosing to apply for service (and credit) from the utility. The utility has every right to ask him to prove his right to be in the country.
Asking for somone to prove their right to be here (especially on a one time basis, as oppposed to stopping them on the street) is not at all intrusive.
We already require employers to verify that new employees are legally eligible to work in the US. How is this different?

a) Why is a criminal precursor required? It is already common practice for proof of legal residency to be required for any number of things. (Starting a new job, getting a loan, etc.)
b) Ample warning could be given before the power is shut off, allowing the illegal invaders plenty of time to return home. Power is shut off for non-payment, during the summer, so I don’t see this an “inhumane” practice at all.
They mostly come from hotter areas. No big deal and not inhumane at all. The fact that these illegal invaders have not been dealt with already is inhumane to those of us who obey the laws.
Mercy to the guilty is injustice to the innocent
