NEWSDAY

Bristol Palin - actress?

You be the judge.

The daughter of one-time GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is making her acting debut, with an appearance set for Monday on The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Bristol Palin will convey a positive message about teen pregnancy. At 19, she might be the most famous unwed mother in the United States. Her son, Tripp, was born in December 2008 (ex-boyfriend Levi Johnston is the dad).

"Bristol Palin makes a special appearance as herself as one of Amy (Shailene Woodley)'s friends at a music program for teen mothers in New York," a statement said.

Palin taped her appearance on the show in March.

A clip of her close-up circulated recently, and, although an Emmy might not be forthcoming, she did know her lines:

"We're all teen moms and musicians," she tells the Woodley character. "This program is for teen moms."

If I recall correctly, the statement was that Bristol was going to “convey a positive message about teen pregnancy”, not that she was going to portray teen pregnancy as a positive choice. There is a difference.

There are plenty of bastard children among the Hollywood Elites. The public had already forgotten about Bristol.

Which brings me back to my original question: What positive message is can be conveyed about unwed teen pregnancy? The only message of any kind that should be presented about it is "Don't".

Most teens wouldn't have gotten into that situation to begin with.

Just because they didn't get (or remain) pregnant doesn't mean that they were engaging in activity that could cause pregnancy.

And I'm not foolish enough to believe that they weren't. But that doesn't make a careless young teen aged girl impregnated by a hockey-playing, trailor-trash dickhead into a role model. Nor does it change her situation into a positive message.

I was surprised by her choice, given this show is one of the worst pieces of teen drama on television. It rivals soap operas for crazed plot lines. I have a high school aged daughter, and I still co-watch many of the programs she sees just to add rational commentary. It started out ok, with one rather stupid naive pregnant teenager, but has since jumped the shark. Now there is a second pregger, and everyone including the so-called stereotypical preachy “christian” characters have engaged in some form of sex.

OK, I'll bite. What positive message can be conveyed about unwed teen aged pregnancy

Go bite Verne Gay of News. Those are his/her/its "positive message" words.

I must say that I agree with Non-Sequitur's earlier comment--indeed, what are the positive benefits of an unwed teen pregnancy? Unless, of course, you are Bristol Plain...Palin. I see very little that is "conservative" in such a message.

"Positive" was the Newsday reporter's description, not Palin's.

Ok, then, what are the benefits of an unwed teen pregnancy? I continue to maintain this is a completely inappropriate, very mixed message for young girls.

FreeReign wrote:"Positive" was the Newsday reporter's description, not Palin's."

MC replied: Ok, then, what are the benefits of an unwed teen pregnancy?

FreeReign responds: What?

(Pan over to MC at computer, quizzical look on her face, then cut away to several jumbled flashback scenes of MC's step sons as teenagers sullenly muttering "What?" in response to perfectly reasonable, carefully worded queries, such as: "When do you plan to get a job and move out?"..."Did you---" (clean your room, mow the lawn, etc)

(MC takes a deep breath, then slowly begins to type)

I...am...asking...you...what...are...the...benefits...(if any)...of...an...unwed...teenage...pregnancy?

(MC sighs, and mumbles)

Must...not...post...on...Palin...threads...

Why on earth do you ask me such a stupid rhetorical question??

Seriously.

Here's one for you.

Do you you kick your cat or beat your dog?

Get it?

(I doubt it)

*Sigh*.

My dear FreeReign--it was not a rhetorical question. Young Ms Palin is (again) going on a nationwide TV venue to discuss her unwed teenage pregnancy.

Her experiences with this very sad state are so wholly removed from the reality of the life of a "single mother" (an oxymoron if ever there was one) as to offer little in the way of instruction to young women. As I noted in a previous post, one student expressed the sentiment that Ms Palin is being rewarded handsomely (TV shots and $30,000 per speech) for her foolish behavior. It sends a very mixed message to teens.

I see absolutely nothing "Conservative" in this. It's reminescent of the behavior of a degenerate element in Hollywood, which also conveys a mixed, and inappropriate message to young people.

I think that in the end, all Ms Palin will be doing (as her mother so often does) is creating embarrassing sound bites for the opposition to use.

Exactly.
Why is she famous?

If it wasn’t for her mother, she’d be just another knocked-up teenage babysitter.

But the media would trump up a dead slug if they thought it would help their ratings.

Hey Bristol...

Why don’t you just do a XXX while you’re at it?

I’m sure some RAT would cough up a cool million to pay you off.

(stupid)

My dear FreeReign--it was not a rhetorical question.

Well Maggie my dear, the question was either rhetorical or it was silly.

I would guess that there isn't anybody here on FreeRepublic who thinks that there is anything good about unwed teenage pregnancies. I certainly don't believe that there is and NOTHING that I said would even remotely suggest that that I do.

About Bristol, I would bet that the message that she will give from her appearance is that unwed teenage pregnancies are a bad idea. And until the show is broadcast I certainly won't base my opinion about how she portrays unwed teenage pregnancies from some Palin hating liberal named Gaye from the liberal rag, Newsday.

I am so sick of Bristol being shoved in our faces at continuous intervals. When we think she's disappeared from view, up she pops again.

Just think, she's only 19 and just getting started in her tabloid career. I say "tabloid" because no one cares about her travails except Sarah-haters, voyeurs and uneducated, apprehensive moms with over-sexed, boob-flaunting, undisciplined teeny-bopper daughters.

Spare us, PLEASE.
