It's war! Lawyer for DailyKos details lawsuit against Research 2000

Okay, I just got off the phone with a lawyer for DailyKos, and he gave me a bunch of interesting new detail about the lawsuit Kos is going to file against the polling outfit Research 2000.

The gist: This is likely to be a serious lawsuit that is going to flush a lot out into the open, and prompt a serious discussion about what news orgs should be doing to vet polling data they commission.

In case you missed it, DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas today revealed that he was preparing to sue Research 2000, which Kos has commissioned polling from for years. Kos said a trio of statistics experts dug into their polling and concluded that much of the polling "we ran the past year and a half was likely bunk."

Were the polls telling the Kos what they were wanting to hear and MarKOS finally woke the hell up?

I just posted an excerpt from the analysis that concluded that the polls were rigged, or at least non-random:

There's also a link to Kos's response. He admits that it was all "bunk".

This is news to Kos? Every time I went over to his site Obama was polling high up into the sky. EVERY other pollster had him in the 50s and 40s, but his was the only one that didn’t.

I figured he was paying for the results he wanted to see. How could this be news to him?

Apparently he was happy with them while the polls said what he wanted. Now that his Mesiah is headed for the tank....SUE.

RCP seems to have scrubbed any numbers from Kos/Research 2000 polls from their average. Some articles based on this poll are still around.

I wonder if Research2000 was just a huckster, telling the mark what he wanted to hear, or if he’s a DEM mythmaker himself.

Markos probably realizes there is a rat in the woodpile that is about to blow the whistle on all the designer polls he has been running and is making a pre-emptive strike.

I’m not going to get too excited until I hear whether Daily Kos’s was current on their bill.

This is going to ripple through the media. Lots of them used Daily Kos/Research2000 polls. The Washington Post had them on their list of Approved Pollsters.

Here’s a quote from the Des Moines Register:

“The liberal website Daily Kos has accused its former polling firm, Research 2000, of fraud. It may sue the company.

Why does this matter to Iowans? Research 2000 has done a lot of polling this year for KCCI-TV, including a poll earlier this month that showed Chuck Grassley with just an 8 point lead over Roxanne Conlin. A day later, a different polling company gave Grassley a 26 point lead.”

Lots of red faces amongst the ink-stained wretches of the main stream media.

"Markos money down the drain."

I think it's Soros money down the drain. Markos is Georgie's boy toy.

I also read an article yesterday in Time that had daily kos as one of the top five most overrated blogs on the internet.

People are sick of those foul mouthed kids.

You can only distort numbers, fudge responses, and use lies and misleading questions for so long before the numbers are meaningless. Maybe the pollsters just threw their hands in the air and give the fools the numbers they wanted to see, thinking they would never take the effort to dig too deep.

There is nothing wrong with that face that a few quick right and left jab combinations wouldn’t fix.

So, R2000 doesn’t seem to be professional in cooking the data. If they simply add 3-4% to the average polls, people may not be suspicious. They seemed to take proud in being an outlier.

this is likely to prompt a serious discussion about whether news orgs should be doing more to vet the polling they commission or publish.

Won't that defeat the sole purpose of the ubiquitous MSM polls? To influence / steer public opinion.

I think that actually some of the polls were skewed against Obama, not for.
