The confirmation hearing for Gen. David Petraeus to be ISAF commander began a few minutes ago. The second day of the Elena Kagan Supreme Court nomination hearings began around 9 a.m. They're on the cable networks for the most part. FOX, CNN and MSNBC are dipping in and out of the hearings depending on who's speaking.
The Kagan hearing is being shown live on C-SPAN 3 and online at C-SPAN here.
The Petraeus hearing can be viewed online at the Senate Armed Services Committee Web site here.
She hates anything mentioned in the Constitution...she is in favor of moving to a moving alternation of the document over time to award special rights and privileges to the losers and un gifted at the expense of those who achieve. She represents a view that is totally at odds with mine.
Remember how Myers was roasted by both the left and right before withdrawing? Why so and not this crumb? Simple, the RINO’s have no backbone and some may as well be dummocrates. Look at the ruling yesterday where her alter eog voted and you get a great idea where this one is going too.
Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan is calling the Constitution a living document, saying its framers wrote it to last through ever-changing circumstances.
Her remarks in an exchange with Sen. Patrick Leahy on the second day of confirmation hearings touched on suggestions by Republican critics that she would legislate from the bench.
*snip*
"Either way," she said, "we apply what they say, what they meant to do, so in that sense we are all originalists."

Solicitor General Kagan’s White House support team at the hearing includes White House Counsel Bob Bauer, Susan Davies (Bauer’s deputy who has been running day-to-day of the confirmation process) and Phil Schiliro, Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs.
If they tried to bring out her feminine side, they failed miserably.
It’s 11:15 EST, anyone have a copy of the General’s opening statement? I would love to be able to read it, or know if the hearing will be replayed?
Now with Feinstein: “Do YOU think...?” and she answers “I think the court has held...”
Won’t say what she herself thinks.
Obligatory “Carpet Muncher” Alert!

Sen. Sessions on CNN saying he is “troubled” by Kagan’s testimony today. He is not ruling out a filibuster.
If they don't filibuster kagan there is no reason to support the party as it currently exists
I've never seen anyone less qualified
.
At the end, Petraeus pulled rank on Graham by addressing him as "Colonel" and saying he looks forward to Graham serving (under him) in Afghanistan. (Graham is a Reserves JAG.)
The only thing lacking on these code pink gals is the tie dyed shirts and long stringy hair and a garland of flowers....what an embarrassment!
>> How can the GOP possibly confirm this woman?
Because they really don’t represent us.
They’d rather maintain harmony in the Senate than fight tooth-n-nail to accomplish that which sustains our liberties.
It’s still a question on which way Lindsey Graham swings, ... (both in and out of the hearings).
He got quite cozy with Holder.

Senate Panel Approves Holder Nomination For AG
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said he supports Holders view that the country needs to interrogate terrorism suspects based on American values.
I am confident this new attorney general will have a balanced approach and I look forward to working with him. I know hes made mistakes and so have I, Graham said.

USC to get new business building
Funds will come from leasing current building to Department of Justice
An estimated 250 Justice Department employees working in different locations near Washington, D.C., will be relocated to Columbia over an unspecified period.
Graham said U.S. taxpayers will save $42 million by having Justice Department employees working in South Carolina, which has lower costs than Washington.
It was almost too good to be true, Graham said of the plan. But it proved to be true.
Graham, a Republican, praised U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, both of whom were appointed by President Obama, a Democrat.
I cant thank Eric Holder and David Ogden enough, Graham said, adding they offered their support for a leasing plan that was initiated during the administration of George W. Bush.
>> “Either way,” she said, “we apply what they say, what they meant to do, so in that sense we are all originalists.”
Holy crap!!!
Well that explains it...obvious Petraeus didn’t give him the answer he was looking for. From my perspective it doesn’t look as though there is a date per say...rather a “process” which isn’t a withdrawal of troops. I say stay for whatever duration...better there than on US soil. Keep it all in the ME.
