Rand Paul Wont Say How Old the Earth Is
Charles Johnson
The Lizard Annex 6-28-2010
From PageOneKentucky.com, heres a video of GOP candidate Rand Paul addressing a convention of Christian homeschoolers, and dodging a question about the age of the Earth.
The questions asked by the homeschoolers in the video: 1) are you a Christian, 2) how old is the Earth, and 3) will you let the UN take our children. Yep, really. And these are the teachers asking these questions. Theyre raising a generation of kids who are ignorant anti-science fanatics, afraid that the United Nations is going to come and kidnap them. Good grief.
Did he dodge the question because hes a creationist and he knows that he shouldnt reveal it for political reasons, or because hes not a creationist and he knows he shouldnt reveal it for political reasons? Either way, this is very sleazy behavior.
My opinion: I think he probably is a creationist, just like his father Ron Paul, because his world view matches the creationist world view in every respect.
(Shrugs). We could make it interesting -- I'll send you a copy of my SAT scores, you send me yours; loser reimburses the cost of the College Board fees to secure the records. You want to take the bet, just "Ping" Jim Robinson to this Wager and ask if he'll be willing to serve as Judge. Loser also contributes $100 to Free Republic to compensate Jim for his trouble, if he cares to officiate.
I'm confident that I win this bet without even knowing anything about you, other than your repudiation of Creationism.
Alternatively, I could call up Rose State College here in Oklahoma to see if they still have the records from the year I won the State Championship in World History; if you were ever State Champion of anything (you weren't, that's obvious enough from your posts), you're welcome to post your records in response.
I mean, there's a million different ways we could do this, but you'll lose every one.
I thought Christians were supposed to leave the judging to God?
I guess there are some who think they've reached that level....
Sure, for awhile. Like I said, it will take a few generations.
But, the moment you abolish Government Schooling and give Creationist Parents their money back, you've got something like 55% of Americans willing and able to pay for Creationist schooling.
That creates an enormous shift in educational demand, in favor of Creationism, on Day One. Continued Creationist numerical superiority in child-bearing will continue to reinforce those trends over time.
I'm unconcerned about the results. Given the vast numbers of Parents who want their children educated in Creationism, the market for Creationist education will grow, and the market for Evolutionist education will shrink.
Subsidize something (Evolutionism), and you will get more of it.
Eliminate the subsidy, and you will get less of it.
This really is Basic Economics.
Post #241. There’s that arrogance. And be very careful. World History is not the same as engineering and physics with respect to GPA or scholarship.

My opponent calls Creationists "the lowest IQ fools on the planet", and I'm getting the lecture about arrogance? Really?
Not addressing him.....
Probably the considerable majority of FReepers are Creationists.
It seems to me rather gauche to accuse such an august body of thinkers of being "the lowest IQ fools on the planet".
No reference to the State Championship in World History, either on the Rose State College ("Your Community College of Choice") web site nor, for that matter, a broader search on Bing (probably the result of evolution of the Internet.)
And a challenge to share SAT scores: if (big if) your scores are what you claim them to be then the argument can be made you can take a standardized test.
Do you think that the Catholics are going to go anywhere or change their position?
Catholics are a large and expanding % of the American population.
Catholic schools are the #1 private school system in America. They teach evolution.
Rose State hosted the statewide High School championships. Basically a "Rental Room".
At least they did back in '91, anyway.
I don't even know if there's a College-level "State Championship" competition; after an enjoyable year at Liberty University in Virginia, I found OU to be a boring academic meat-grinder and so dropped out to run off to Alaska and become a Salmon and Dungeness Crab fisherman.
Actually, looking pretty much the same then as I do now, in terms of personal stylistic choices.

Indeed. And high SAT scores are generally associated with "the lowest IQ fools on the planet", yes?
Come to think of it, I might not even have to order my records from the College Board, as the State Board of Regents should still have copies of my SAT scores on record from the full scholarship they handed me. Still couldn't convince me to stay with OU, though.
“Rand Paul Wont Say How Old the Earth Is.”
How is he supposed to know how many billions of years old the earth happens to be?
Yes, but they certainly don't teach Atheistic Evolutionism.
Evolutionism of the Atheistic variety, being -- as I have said all along -- my biggest objection to the Government Schools.
If some Schools want to teach that "God guided the process", they'll get plenty of Parents signing up for that. Perhaps not as many as Creationist schools, but a large enough market.
Not so, the teaching of Atheistic Evolutionism. Small numbers of parents, who have few children; little long-term future without Government Monopoly Subsidies.
More like thousands of years, if he takes after his dad's beliefs on the subject.
As he probably does.
“More like thousands of years, if he takes after his dad’s beliefs on the subject.”
I knew that Ronny boy was crazy but I didn’t know he was stupid as well.
He's not. Like most Medical Doctors, he's an intelligent man with an excellent grounding in science.
Then whats’ with this “thousands of years” garbage?
Evolution is science, just as star formation is science; teaching that God was either guiding or not involved in either process is not science, neither would teaching either position in public schools be Constitutional.
So it seems that your big bugaboo is something that doesn't actually exist; a public school teacher instructing students upon a physical mechanism to explain a physical process (science) and then further claiming that this means that God is not involved (atheistic).
Catholics have no problem teaching evolution because, despite the protestations otherwise by fanatics on both sides, acceptance of the scientific theory of evolution is perfectly compatible with religious faith.
Like many intelligent, well-educated men, Ron Paul is a Creationist.
Heck, probably the considerable majority of FReepers are Creationists; I don't think it's coincidental that this Forum operates at least a couple standard deviations above the intellectual norm, compared to other political forums.
I mean, look at Democratic Underground. Probably 100% Evolutionist; and, unsurprisingly, dumber than a bag of hammers.
Is there any biblical evidence of what you are talking about? Do you perhaps have a link that I could read.
