When Sarah Palin first entered the national consciousness, she seemed more like a candidate for the Jerry Springer Show than for vice president. Her interview with Katie Couric showed she was woefully unprepared to be John McCain's running mate. And when her grandson's father appeared in Playgirl magazine, Palin seemed destined to go down in history as a cocktail party joke.
Yet almost two years later, she has bucked the naysayers and is more beloved than before. Yet despite landing a TV show on Fox, a deal with Discovery Channel, and a bestselling book, too many political elites still underestimate Palin's presence and ability to connect with a large number of Americans.
True, Sarah Palin will never develop a great foreign policy like George Kennan, and she will never win over the liberal elite like Tom Friedman. And like most of the rest of the world outside of America, I hope she stays in the entertainment business and leaves politics altogether.
But that is not the point. Palin has the ability to connect with a growing portion of Americans in a way other politicians like Mitt Romney will never be able. This makes her powerful, no matter whether she runs for office again or not.
It would be foolish for both Republicans and Democrats to continue to disparage and underestimate Palin, and ignore the anguish that has given rise to the Tea Party movement and the phenomena that is Glenn Beck and Fox News. The more the self-defined elites belittle Palin, the more they empower and bring together disenfranchised, scared and angry Americans. And with the_unemployment and ballooning debt situation not looking to improve anytime_soon, there are a lot of those. Why does Palin appeal to so many Americans?
Even now, I can't discern any real policy Palin stands for.

Nasty article! He praises her for being a marketing genius as if she’s some cynical manipulative money grubber.
He takes it for granted she wouldn’t ever develop a great foreign policy, well how does he know? Margaret Thatcher was laughed at .... but only for a while. And so was Reagan.
Some idiots never learn. He looks young enough that he’s still probably suffering from his Marxist indoctrination at university...maybe the snot will grow up some day.
The founding fathers would have nothing but sheer contempt for the leadership in Washington DC nowadays. Utter and complete contempt.
Someone has said that the United States is a nation of Indians (India-Indians) who are ruled by Swedes. Governor Palin is one of those Indians. The Swedes don’t know what to make of her since they think that the Indians don’t know what us best for us and they do. Every time Sarah opens her mouth, Indian talk pops out. The Swedes don’t know the language.
I agree. If one loves America, they love SARAH.
Palin reminds me a lot of Margaret Thatcher except that Palin seems a lot more friendlier and smiles more.
Palin also has some of Reagan’s qualities too.
I wasn’t sure about Reagan at first but he soon changed my mind very quickly once I saw him govern.
We have some really great conservatives now like Palin and governor Christie in New Jersey, governor Brewer in Arizona amd Sheriff Joe also of Arizona. These folks do conservatives proud. And we need a lot more like em.
Sorry, page one made me choke bad enough!
I call it inspire people which gives license to effective leadership. The difference between what she inspires and what BoZero does is easily summed up in one word: American.
I haven't heard one word out of Obama's mouth that would lead me to believe America is worth defending due to her unique and exceptional place in the world. That should scare the crap out of anyone who understands how many other countries would love to take us down a notch.
Let's just say I'd love to spend a morning sitting next to Sarah and Todd in Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church for a sermon. I'd bring the 40s.(well, the ones left over, anyway)
Yet,
But,
True, but,
Yet
Although
Seems
Does Forbes pay him or does he pay Forbes for this?
The batch of over-educated Ivy League poodles who can’t fathom “what she stands for” haven’t the minds or the imagination to be anywhere near the levers of American power and might.
Ditto that.
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the worlds eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.
Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise.
And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.
As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
~ 1 Corinthians 1:26-29
This is pathetic or ludicrous these nitwits presuming they are qualified to pass on Sarah when they don’t have a clue.
They have to write something even if they have nothing to say. We see that Sarah Palin is head and shoulders wiser and more trustworthy than any of the other politicians and they can’t understand why we support her.
Tjhis guy is not possessed with what it takes to ‘understand” Mrs Palin, not are many of the political “elite” any more. He’s trying to quantify her by formulas, strategies, and winning techniques, that can be reproduced by any astute manipulator...and he just can’t figure out how she’s doing itbecause he doesn’t have a soul, a human spark to enlighten him.
Like most of the “intellectual class”...They ain’t got no souls anymoreto understand and relate to the love of the common man. They just want to manipulate us, and it infuriates them when they can’t, because they are just *so* much smarter than us.....
I’ll take distributed computing over isolated supercomputing with a network of slave nodes, any day of the week.
He does not understand the art of politics and the ability of a politician to relate to the citizenry. I hope this guy is working for Romney and giving him this type of advice.
Basically, this guy needs to get out in the real world and work and listen to the people—rather than assuming he knows all the answers.
You cannot teach political AUTHENTICITY—you either have it or you do not.
Gov. Palin has it.
Well stated DGHoodini.
I think she is a person of depth, thoughtfulness, and courage of conviction. The kind of depth ivy leagues will rob you of, but spending time amidst Gods majestic creation in Alaska will instill in you.
She obviously hasn't read Sarah's book, nor has she read any of Sarah's opinion pieces in the Wall Street Journal or NY Times.
