SAINT-DENIS, Reunion -- Sixteen-year-old sailor Abby Sunderland is homeward bound - though her plane flight back to California isn't the homecoming she originally imagined when she set off in hopes of sailing around the world.

About two weeks after her rescue at sea, Sunderland departed Sunday from the French island of Reunion, off the southeastern coast of Africa, en route to France, then on to California.

No, you just wish the U.S. ill will because you can't bring yourself to root for the home team.

The home team needs to prepare much better if they actually want to make it.

Maybe this is the kind of activity that (like other unethically dangerous stunts) the Guinness World Records people should stop publishing records of.

They deliberately planned the trip outside of the areas of pirates.

Jessica Dubroff’s father and flight instructor were in the plane right? And something bad still happened. There are flights that go down all the time. Sometimes even innocent bystanders get hit by those planes. We don’t live in fear though.

I’m not sure I’d put any stock into what “psychologists” say.

They didn’t send someone who had only sailed for 2 weeks on this trip - they prepared her as much as they could.

And you're upset because I object to the needless risk. It makes NO sense to accuse me of wishing her ill will.

lol...you've been running an on-going commentary for a week or two about this young lady, and her family, like they were some kind of evil devil worshipers...

Go back to your Homeowners Association...I'm sure there is a neighbor in violation, doing something that's bothering you....

They also don't realize that the girl isn't going to get to try it again, because now she isn't young enough. The only reason that she was sent out early was to gain the record, now she is just someone who wants to sail around the world and no one is going to sponsor that.

Family Sunderland has 5(and one's on the way) more children. And reports are the 12 year old is deciding this is his "dream".

Maybe it is, at least he has the time to prepare. But I doubt this family can plan long haul.

Thanks, I agree with you. I still think she’s a brave girl and deserving of respect. Even if she “failed” or her parents were less than sterling, she herself is still courageous. The ocean is very large, her boat was very small.

"I asked you not to mention that"

Yes to all you say. That is why I said they shouldn't be discussed. There are enough genuine reasons why this jaunt was a bad idea, without introducing irrelevant ones.

I’m sure there’s a method to your quoting, but I’m not privy to it.

“Family Sunderland has 5(and one’s on the way) more children.”

She’s due to deliver her eighth child this week.

Because you can’t say “I’m glad she’s safe and sound.” All you seem to be able to say is that she shouldn’t have been out there.

This makes absolutely no sense. And you're so hot to insult someone that you disagree with that you can't even see it.

Goodnight.

I just double checked your posts, you seem unable to wish her well - that just seems weird to me, but your choice.

Goodnight.

>>Did this girl embark on a voyage that would have had you shaking in your Uggs?<<

Maybe you should let your 16 year old white daughter, dressed in a miniskirt, walk through Watts or Harlem in the dead of night. I man, it is an adventure, right? If she really wanted to do it, what could possibly go wrong? I mean, she would have a cell-phone, so it isn’t like she doesn’t know what to do.

Damn, I feel sorry for your kids.

That's what I said. Two oldest have tried to "Sail around world and become rich". They have nearly 6 more to keep trying until it works.

(It won't. Sailors don't become rich. At best they secure themselves a life of hard work doing what they love. For most it's enough.)

>>It’s not an insult, but an observation that you’ve probably never been completely independent. It’s hard to understand adventure and independence if you’ve never had either.<<

It is always good to hear from the 12-year olds weigh in.
