Iran blinks, will not send "aid ship" to Gaza

SNIPPET: "IRNA said that Sheikholeslam told reporters in the northern city of Rasht that the ship had originally been scheduled to depart for Gaza on Thursday, but that its departure was postponed until Sunday because of restrictions imposed by Israel.

He added that officials then decided instead to cancel the trip altogether, shipping to Gaza the goods by other means, IRNA said."

Boroujerdi clarified that this flotilla, which includes Majlis members, is distinct from the one being organized by the Iranian Red Crescent.”

The Iranian Red Crescent is planning to send two ships to Gaza this week it was announced on Monday.

AFP quotes Red Crescent director for international affairs Abdolrauf Adibzadeh as saying: “One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week.”

Iran Revolutionary Guards ready to escort Gaza ships 06 Jun 2010 12:40:35 GMT Source: Reuters TEHRAN, June 6 (Reuters) - Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards are ready to provide a military escort to cargo ships trying to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday.

“Iran’s navy forces are ready to escort the peace flotilla to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities,” Ali Shirazi, Khamenei’s representative inside the Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Any intervention by the Iranian military would be considered highly provocative by Israel which accuses Iran of supplying weapons to Hamas, the Islamist movement which rules Gaza.

The Guards, with their own navy, air force and command structure separate from the regular armed forces, are seen as fiercely loyal to the values of the Islamic Republic.

“If the Supreme Leader issues an order for this then the Revolutionary Guard naval forces will do their best to secure the ships,” Shirazi said. “It is Iran’s duty to defend the innocent people of Gaza.”

The Saudis would love to see one of the infidels take out Iran. They fear and detest the Iranians, and do not want to see them be the power brokers of the Middle East. They do not have the capability of confronting Iran, though.

That's what I love about Muslims. Sunnis killing Shi'ites. Saudis hating Iranians. It's proof that even if there weren't any Jews to kill, they'd still be able to improvise and find someone that needed killing.

Since Israel will now allow the ships to be unloaded and aid delivered by land, were the objective humanitarian, I'd expect to see more ships sailing, not fewer.
