WASHINGTON — D.C. police are investigating after an officer shot and killed a dog that allegedly attacked him while serving a search warrant at a Northwest Washington home Tuesday night.
Marietta Robinson, who lives at the address, said police were unjustified in killing the dog, which she put in the bathroom before police entered the home. Police were searching for her grandson, who the woman said hasn’t lived there in so long, not even her 13-year-old dog knew what her grandson looked like.
An officer entered the bathroom over the 62-year-old woman’s protests and shot the dog, named Wrinkles. As many as eight shots may have been fired, Robinson said.

thanks for the link, obviously some really shoddy reporting, not that it really makes a difference. They knew the dog was in the bathroom. Anyone with a brain knows that dogs react to strangers in there house, they also can feel the tension. I am sure the dog was all wound up. Dumb, just dumb!
I agree with you if that is what really happened. On the other hand the whole search sounds bogus, and they should have never been in the home to begin with.
I personally think drugs should be legalized, and we should use our police force to pursue real criminals (those who hurt other people). What someone does in their home should be their own business.

This happens way, way, way too often for it to be just coincidence. Shooting the family dog has become a systemic method of intimidation. When do they start shooting people as SOP on serving a search warrant?

The woman asked if the dog could be put in the bathroom or in the yard. Why not allow her to put the dog in the yard if they had to search the bathroom?
When they realized they had to search the bathroom, why not ask her to remove the dog?
Why not? Because now you get to go to happy hour and boast about discharging your firearm to your other cop buddies. This is why there is so little respect for LEO.
These stories are commonplace now. Children should not be allowed to play with firearms....even big ones.
Just some cops getting their kicks. They all do it. Killing the dog is the approved method for earning your spurs with the other boys in blue.

So here is the scenario - all that you said, plus to make sure that you are completely disoriented, they throw in explosives that may destroy your property or hurt people in the room. Disoriented and possibly in pain and possibly dealing with a house fire. So you look for your weapon and catch four or five magazines of automatic fire - because in your disoriented state you should have known better.
Notice in this scene YOU are expected to be on top of your game to know that the screaming and cursing ninjas trashing your house and roughing up your family are "the good guys", so clearly it is your fault that they got the wrong address and they need a mop and sponge to collect what is left of you and your family. But when this rodent-like dog, in a locked room barking like mad confronts the only highly trained entity in Washington D.C. that can be trusted to responsibly use a firearm - the LEO clearly has to make a last-second life or death decision - and decides to kill the dog.
For his protection, of course.
Afterall, YOU the citizen, in that exact same situation, would have done far, far worse according to the logic of our overlords. And that is why the D.C. residents can't be trusted with something so dangerous as 2A rights.
I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.
