“The act will have been brief, impersonal and utterly bereft of emotion”

This is the definition of a one night stand. Get over it lady.

So much for liberals telling us that children don’t need two parents and a whole family. When people start messing with the design..........

This sounds like a conclusion in search of a study. Who gets to fund the study?

In the grand scheme of life's regrets, I doubt most sane people spend quality time lamenting that which they never had or knew.

And two-thirds affirmed the right of donor-conceived children to know the truth about their origins.
Wonder what the odds of inbreeding are? to bad they will forever feel hurt onbody should do that to a kid.

Beautiful woman. She should be glad it wasn't Prince Charles.

These people need to grow up, get over it and stop thinking about themselves and their precious “feelings” all the time.

She’s alive, she’s obviously had a comfortable childhood, and she has nothing to complain about.

Some fine upstanding gentleman, alone and aroused with a magazine and specimen jar in some clinic wap-off room. I'm sure Social Security has a category for her to receive monthly benefits under this situation...

Why doesn’t she shoot herself? Why waste time whining to the press?

What a whiner!

Because she can’t ove on.org with life, and be happy that she is here to GIVE life to others, she is going to majorly screw up her children, as they grew up with an angry, bitter, small-minded mother who is an emotional cripple.

Snivel, snivel, whiiiiiine!

The wench has a husband and a family and she is playing the Drama Queen?

Get a life, lady!

PS “lady” was used very casually in this case.

I presume she grew up in the home with her mother and her mother’s “infertile husband”. Wouldn’t he have provided the role of “father”.

It’s the unattached mothers that go through this process that I don’t understand.

'In my view, it is a horrible, clinical way to be conceived. All my life I've felt as if I'm only half a person.'

Anyone who is worried about the "way" in which she was conceived, to the point of feeling "all [her] life" like half a person," is way, WAY too interested in her parents' sex acts (or lack of them).

I am surprised at the Freepers that don’t understand the questions of ethics involved here. What if 2 of theses unknown siblings meet and start to date? And yes, it happens. I know a young man that was adopted and his parents had to tell him that the girl he was interested in was his half sister. IVF and the secrecy over donor identity is dangerous.

I agree with most comments that this lady needs to get over her problems. Hers is no different than girls from China adopted by Westerners and raised her. Sure some of those girls might grieve over the biological parents they never knew and never understand why their parents gave them up; still, those girls are among the luckiest humans on the planet, to be born in the hellhole of Shanghai and raised amid the prosperity of the USA.

However, this English woman’s lament was a predictable outcome of the post-modern world, where families can have two mommies, two daddies, multiple marriages, or consist of group marriage.

There will always be very sensitive people who grieve over the fact that their parents did not love each other and that there are less than ideal circumstances for their birth.

She should just get over it? I’m surprised at peoples reactions here. Why do they think adoptive children often seek answers as to who their biological family is? Connections. Who am I like? These are the unintended consequences of playing God.

I think this woman just wants people to know it is hurtful. She is sharing so she can influence women against making the same decision her mother made.

Fathered by a sperm donor - so why does she bitterly resent the stranger who gave her life?

That is the same quandary Resident Obama has been struggling with his whole life.
