Gen. Stanley McChrystal left the White House on Wednesday morning after meeting for approximately half an hour with President Barack Obama.

SNIP

Obama is expected to make remarks on the situation in Afghanistan and McChrystal's fate at approximately 11:35 a.m., following a meeting with his war advisors. It's not clear whether McChrystal, a normal participant in those meetings, will return to the White House to participate.

COIN is a failed strategy in Afghanistan. It worked in Iraq, but one size does NOT fit all when dealing with Muslim nations.

You seem not to know what you are talking about here - COIN was not the only strategy going on in Stan....Nor was it in Iraq....COIN, FID, Counter-Terrorism along with several other acronyms most would not be familiar with were all going on in Iraq (and are as well in Stan). The notion that COIN or the "surge" won Iraq, are simply ill-informed notions...

And yes, without question, COIN operations will be part of any overall successful Stan battle plan...

The reality is Stan has come a hell of a long way in the past 9 years....And all serious minds be that Civ and within the Military understood dragging Stan out of the dark ages was going to be a decade/s long process.

What has gone so wrong over the past 18 months is the lack of resolve out of this current WH and projected further by their Civ commanders within the AO (be that Stan or Pak) and how that has played out within these Countries...

Thanks for the info. My intuition tells me to side with McChrystal, but I always try to verify that with fact.

My son is retired (Amy officer), and was disgusted by the political stuff/undeserved promotions he witnessed during the Clinton Admin.

It wasn’t for him, and he decided to not continue with his planned career. His superiors were very disappointed, as they all gave him top reviews.

He is a West Point grad, but absolutely not a “ring knocker”. (He left his ring at home after graduating, as he didn’t want to be seen as one of those by his fellow officers and his men.

Clinton lost a lot of good young officer talent, and I suspect that Obama will lose a lot more after this foul-up. But, we all ultimately lose when these good young officers get the picture, and leave the military because of bad political decisions.

THere are a whole bunch of us - and NOT just JO’s who are not pleased at all with Zero.

Over the past year, I have seen Commercials for becoming an Army Officer. What does this tell you? Never in my entire life have I seen that.

O3’s, O4’s and O5’s are bailing in droves.
