NBC News' Savannah Guthrie reports this morning that Gen. Stanley McChrystal is being called to Washington for a meeting at the White House tomorrow in the wake of a Rolling Stone article that has exposed McChrystal and his staff as mockingly disrespectful of their civilian overseers, including their commander-in-chief President Barack Obama.
Guthrie posted at Twitter:
McChrystal has been ordered to the Sit Rom tomorrow to explain his stmts criticizing admin officials to Rolling Stone to POTUS in person 15 minutes ago via UberTwitter
Guthrie added: "McChrystal has been calling around town apologizing to officials."
The Atlantic reported late last night that McChrystal had been called by numerous top officials last night:
Within hours after today's Rolling Stone story broke, McChrystal was called by the White House, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They were not happy.
The Atlantic also notes that McChrystal never completely had the trust of the Obama administration:
Even though McChrystal voted for Obama and told him so during their first meeting, he sensed that a number of senior White House aides didn't really believe that the former commander of the military's special missions unit during the Bush-Cheney years was suddenly on their side. National Security Adviser James Jones, who is a bit of cipher to McChrystal's team, may or may not have been one of these aides. No one in the West Wing bought all that liberal internet chatter about JSOC's alleged crimes -- but no one really didn't buy it, either.
Obama will make a mess of this situation.
Obama will tolerate no dissent...
That alone would give me reason to question his competency. I hope he pays the price for his foolish choice in presidents.
The fact that anyone could be called insubordinate to the boy king in the white house is pathetic.
McChrystal is lucky he hasn’t been fired already.
are there?,
any Army,
3 or 4 star job openings
Dontcha luv it!
Obama + situation (any) = MESS
Any military person who voted for Barry is a disgrace to the uniform.
McC will grovel and then be fired.
Remember how O supposedly chewed out Petraeus.
O’s plans for destroying America are well on the way to fruition.
What I don’t understand is why none of our military leaders have not resigned. This petty backbiting is more than unprofessional.
Frankly, as much as I hate O, these comments from McChrystal are unacceptable. Always have been, and hopefully, always will be.
This really will resonate with the troops...
By this time next week I predict we’ll be referring to him as “Retired general and FOX News Military Analyst Stanley McChrystal”.
Speaking truth to power-I like it
McChrystal has known this article was coming for some time - was that the strategy he came up with - grovel and apologize? Maybe he was taking his cue from Obama’s foreign policy rituals.
This is as close to a mutiny as you can get. And a LOT of Americans, perhaps a majority, will be backing the mutiny. The wheels are fast coming off the bam train, I’m starting to wonder what we do when you have a totally insane traitorous usurper as president who no longer even fakes like he is pro-American, and a buffoon for VP. Does it become a civil war?
generals are supposed to be apolitical.
Eisenhower never voted. I read he was scrupulous about this.
They are not supposed to have political allegiance to the Pres. They serve our nation and whoever is CIC.
There's always room for another retired general.
And visa versa.
Must be a Republican.
