"I apologize for using the term 'shakedown' with regard to yesterday's actions at the White House in my opening statement this morning, and I retract my apology to BP..."
SNIP
"I regret the impact that my statement this morning implied that BP should not pay for the consequences of their decisions and actions in this incident."

Once again shaking my head in disbelief
Simply driven by fear of losing his job. What a pathetic POS. From standing up to crawling in a few hours.
Thanks Joe.
(from HotAir...notice Republicans JUST WANTED THE PAIN TO GO AWAY)
Members of the caucus have been screaming at Boehner all day to make the pain go away, and now hes going to try. A joint statement from him, Cantor, and Pence:
The oil spill in the Gulf is this nations largest natural disaster and stopping the leak and cleaning up the region is our top priority. Congressman Bartons statements this morning were wrong. BP itself has acknowledged that responsibility for the economic damages lies with them and has offered an initial pledge of $20 billion dollars for that purpose.
The families and businesspeople in the Gulf region want leadership, accountability and action from BP and the Administration. It is unacceptable that, 59 days after this crisis began, no solution is forthcoming. Simply put, the American people want all of our resources, time and focus to be directed toward stopping the spill and cleaning up the mess.
It proves once again that Rush, etc. are wrong about the GOP. There has to be a replacement party for conservatives. The GOP are wimps.
It is a shakedown. What a pansy.
No one should be resigning from Congress until that North Carolina jacka$$ who assaulted the students goes FIRST!
And sorry, but it WAS a shakedown!
ilgipper said wuss
You call him a coward.
Others are also on his case.
Are you guys missing the fact that he is TAKING BACK his apology?
Is that what you’re mad at? Or do you think he was right in apologizing to BP?
These damn Republican Congressmen need to grow a pair. BP is being extorted by the Obama Chicago machine, with $$ going into the Obama "stash" slush fund. When we DEMAND that they de-fund ObamaCare in January, we don't need to elect Conservatives in November who get weak in the knees at the first signs of pressure! |
We no longer have a nation of laws. For the life of me I have been trying to understand how congress can hold court and render verdicts.
The BP that he should have apologized to are the British People, and the British Pensioners. The British Pensioners are indeed being shaken down by Chairman 0bama, and he’s comparing the British People to the 9/11 hijackers.
Coward.
For what it's worth ... the oil spill in the Gulf is not a natural disaster ... it's a man made disaster.
Katrina was a natural disaster ...
Why take the attention of Obama when his poll numbers are sinking?
He never said BP should NOT pay....he said the shakedown was unseemly, and not legal authority for a President. (more like 3rd world behavior) It should be done by the courts. Of course the Dems are now asking for heathcare pmts from BP, and unemployement from all the rigs that Obama shut down.
(WSJ)A government-administered fund more or less guarantees a more politicized payment process. The escrow administrator will be chosen by the White House, and as such would be influenced by the Administrations political goals. Those goals would include payments to those harmed by the Administrations own six-month deep water drilling ban. That reckless policy will soon put thousands of Gulf Coast residents out of work, but the White House knows that BP isnt liable under current law for those claims. The escrow account is an attempt to tap BPs funds by other means to pay the costs of Mr. Obamas own policy blunder.
The point is it needs to follow the rule of law.
Congress is not a court system last time I checked and neither is the Executive branch.
Send him a box of tampons.
