SC Primary: Alvin Greene: Just who is he?
BBC ^ | June 17, 2010 | Finlo Rohrer

The victory of the mysterious Alvin Greene in the South Carolina Democratic primary for the US Senate race left many scratching their heads, with the losing candidate making an appeal on Thursday.

Alvin Greene has been given a hard time since the primary.

He has been ridiculed on YouTube, accused of being a "plant" by senior Democrats, and questioned over his mental state on live television.

Much has been made of the fact he is unemployed, was unknown to local Democrats and seemed to have done no campaigning. Despite this he won the primary 59% to 41% and will now face incumbent Senator Jim DeMint in November's general election.

A number of journalists have highlighted Mr Greene's tendency to resort to a rehearsed list of stock phrases in interviews, and speaking on the phone with him does lead to a certain sense of deja vu.

[snip]

Annabelle Robertson, a columnist on local newspaper The Item, spent two hours with Mr Greene, and believes he shows signs of autism.

"He sways from foot-to-foot when you are talking with him. He wrings his hands. He repeats himself. He has key phrases he repeats over and over. He has trouble being too close to people."

He is not very articulate, she suggests.

"I was surprised he was in intel [US Army intelligence]. He can barely string two sentences together."

Indeed, his sentences are often followed by "erms" and long pauses. Then again, he does have a degree in politics from the University of South Carolina.

And he is dismissive of Todd Rutherford, the South Carolina legislator who questioned his mental state.

"He is one of the knuckleheads," Mr Greene says, before descending into giggles.

Much of this is a rehash. IMHO, about all the news there is has been wrung from this story. We'll have to see what the RATS decide to do today.

I’ve been thinking that the reason the ‘Rats are so upset about this election is that it exposes to the world just how stupid the average Democrat voter really is.

Sounds like he would fit right in to the Senate.

IMHO, that’s a large part of the RAT anger.

He’s a black Army veteran getting politically lynched by lily-white South Carolina DemoKKKrats and their black servants. Combination of early 1960’s church-bombings and cross-burnings, and late 1960’s troop-spitting.

Maybe it’s just that voters got tired of the same old, same old and decided to vote for an unknown. I admit to not knowing anything about Mr. Greene, but the description of his demeanor doesn’t make him any worse than a “normal” politician.

But it does go to show you that most voters are not particularly educated about the candidates they vote for. They vote with their FEELINGS. That’s how we wound up with Obama as president.

I fail to see what makes this guy different from any other demonrat politician. It seems voters find him to be a step up.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but it matters not.

Given: Alvin is not exactly the brightest bulb on the string.
Given: His discharge from the Army and Air Force (IIRC) was NOT voluntary. There had to be issues even though it was supposed to be "honorable."
Given: He is under investigation on sexual charges, possibly involving a minor.
Given: His finances are questionable at best.

Despite all that I think I see a man who - although most likely totally opposite my political postition - wants to do something for his country. He was probably encouraged by the election of BHO.

I'd wager he is an "interesting" opponent in political discussions at the local watering holes. Clueless, but interesting nonetheless.

He wanted to do something and most likely was encouraged by those around him to run for office. Manipulated if you will.

Not by "right wingers" or subversives in the democrat party, but probably by some of his "friends" who thought they would have a great laugh.

I feel very sorry for him, and hope that he can somehow find a way to contribute to the country.

He needs educated, he needs guidance, he needs help. I'm not going to bash him.

This was my impression as well. Although I think he’d make a terrible Senator simply because of incompetance, his stated positions in the interview (creating jobs, holding incumbents accountable) were positive at least.

If, in his 13 years of uniformed service, he so much as mopped and buffed on barracks floor, he's already contributed more in the service of this country than Obama, Axelrod and Emmanuel combined.

They're hopping mad, these liberals, but it's not clear what their theory of the crime is. Before accusing Republicans of committing a dirty trick, apparently no one asked the question: "OK, but what was the trick?"

The key to Greene's victory, you see, is that he got more votes. How do liberals imagine Republicans pulled that off? Mesmerize the Democrats into voting for an idiot? If Republicans could do that, John McCain would be president. ..." ~ Ann Coulter

After learning something about Greene I am convinced that he is NOT retarded at all! He may very well have an IQ well above average but he does have some sort of problem, he has a difficult time speaking but now and then comes out with a sentence that definitely does not fit with the retard image. I knew someone back in ‘62, we were attending Navy electronics school together, there were no retards in the bunch, this guy had the highest IQ of anyone in my class. He was well within the genius category but if you knew nothing about him you would have sworn he was an idiot. Compared to the guy I knew who spent his spare time TRANSLATING EINSTEIN’S THEORIES INTO HIS OWN WORDS Alvin Greene seems downright articulate.
Look how stupid Obama appears to be in this video,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of61E1FesPU. How much worse could he look?

Nobody wants to face the simple truth about this “mystery”, namely Alvin Greene won because the ignorant Rat drones that drug themselves to the primary polls were confused because all of their choices had the big “D” next to their names, so they pushed the button for the first guy in the list, the action closest to their mindless selection of the one big “D” they look for in general elections. With the election of Alvin Greene, we simply have a pure, shining example of the results of voting by an ignorant population.
