There are so many left off this list. No Santana, No Peter Green. No John Cipollina or Steven Stills. No Steve winwood who while he is known for his key board work, is a very accomplished guitarist. And to Leave Alvin Lee off is a crime. Not to mention John Fogerty and Robbie krieger from the Doors.

What about Ernie Isley, that guitar solo on “Who’s That Lady” is smokin’.

"Page is a great producer but has been the sloppiest guitarist i’ve ever seen live."

I've seen him twice. First, with Zepplin back in 77 or 78. I was hammered and really have no recollection of his playing. But, I saw him again in the 90's with the Page/Plant tour, and I must say he was sloppy and very disappointing. Perhaps he was hammered this time.

Saw Joe Satriani in a small venue (less than 2000) on the Time Machine tour. Incredible show from first note to last.

Man you really have it out for Jack White, FWIW more than a few others on this list sing his praises. But that is the great thing about music, different tastes can all be met.

One of the few lifetime experiences that I will never forget was when I partied with Jose in Silverado Canyon, CA. He lived nearby in Orange, CA at the time and made it a habit to come have fun with us locals. It gave him a chance to hang out with ‘regular’ people, no fanfare, no pressure, just fun!

Imagine sitting in a smoke-filled room with maybe 8-10 people listening to him play till the sun came up! He should be in the top 10 along with Kottke, Fahey and Segovia.

There’s a really excellent Christian guitarist named Phil Keaggy. I guess his music doesn’t have a wide enough audience to make a list like this, but he is great.

You said it very well.

Eric Clapton saw SRV in a theatre and after was depressed because thought he was soooo far behind him. Clapton said SRV was like a vessel channeling through his guitar.

Yes it is. There are too many greats for a short list. This list is as bad as the one Rolling Stone put out awhile ago.

“i want a Gibson electric guitar!!!!”

A tip, for what it’s worth: Find a mint condition, used Epiphone Elitist (made in Japan) in your style of choice. I have an Elitist ES-335 and it’s beautiful. Gibson killed off the Elitist line because the quality was on par with American Gibson and it was CHEAPER.

And Gibson don’t like cheap.

This list sucks. No Robin Trower. No Steve Howe. No Al Di Meola. And no Steve Hunter either (yet they included the guy he played guitar for - Lou Reed).

I suspect Cobain and White were included in the list for "political" reasons, to placate the Generation.commers. Otherwise the list would have included too many old men, and that's just not cool, you know.

What ground did either of them break? Play three chords over and over again? Johnny Ramone already did it. Make all kinds of unusual noises? Thurston Moore and Frank Black already did it. Neither Cobain nor White had/have any real talent, but they're popular with the Generation.commers, so they made the list while true talents didn't.

Again, where are Carolos Santana and Eric Johnson? For that matter, where are Phil Colen, Adrian Vandenberg, Paul Westerberg, Brad Shepherd, Dave Faulkner, Vito Bratta, Richie Sambora, Vivan Campbell, Jeff Watson, Brad Gillis, Steve Clark, etc etc etc? There are any number of 80s and 90s metal, rock and alternative guitarists that Cobain and White couldn't hold a candle to, so why didn't they make the list? Because the legions of talentless Generation.com guitarists out there would be pi**ed off if none of their heroes made the list.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
