Its not that I have anything against Mexico; love the country; love the people. Its just that I would like to edge the state of Texas over the border and out of America. My issues with the Lone Star State, aside from the fact that it nurtured and launched the career of George Bush, is that the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup détat, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria.
In this case, the board is pushing an ultra-conservative, Christian agenda. But no religious or political agenda would be acceptable.
This is a cautionary tale because what happens in Texas doesnt necessarily stay in Texas. Textbook publishers are paying close attention. According to published reports, over the last year, they sent curriculum writers to the contentious Texas school board meetings to see which way the political winds were blowing down there.
Publishers are in the business of selling books; if evolution is a nonstarter and creationism is to be embraced, the publishers will tweak their texts accordingly. Of course, those same books will be purchased by other states, which may not concur with Texans religious theory. But Texas has 4.8 million schoolchildren, and business is business or, as Molly Ivins, the great Texas writer, used to say, Bidness is bidness.
In the past, the influence of conservatives on the Texas Board of Education has been balanced by the liberal influence of California, the largest purchaser of textbooks. However, because of the economic collapse, California has put off purchasing any new books until 2014. So, Texas rules.

I say this as a life long Texan -
Give Texas back to Mexico? - not sure we'd be a whole lot worse off than we are now. The idiots in Washington seem absolutely poised to turn America into a 3rd world banana republic. We might have as good or better odds to take a 3rd world banana republic (Mexico) and try to turn it into America.
What a whiner!!! So instead of saying “Constitutional Democracy” kids are taught “Constitutional Republic!” Oh the horror to learn to correctly identify what type of country a kind lives in! Sheeze......
“the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup détat, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria”
Horror of horrors! Liberals would never, ever, ever let anything but non-biased “educational criteria” dictate curricula. It’s not like they ever let politics intrude on what they teach. Also, the term “politically correct” never was coined, gender-race-class “studies” never existed, up is down, and hamburgers eat people.
Sorry, had to ping you guys to Texas story. Not sure who all of the other Texans are, but interesting to say the least so put up who I remember are from TX.
To the Author of this article... get out of Texas and YOU GO to Mexico.. LIBSCUM!
Just more proof of mental illness thriving in the scumbag liberal circles...
With Open borders Perry in charge, you won’t have to worry about giving back. He’s invited a hostile takeover.
What a moron. First, Texas is not “your’s” to give away. Second, we really won’t mind leaving the Union, or at least I wouldn’t. Third, Mexico has no claim on Texas - period. For the illiterate RATs (sorry about being redundant), we (with the help of individuals who on their own came to Texas) threw out the tyrants from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas. We decided to join the Union. If we leave, we go back to the Republic of Texas - never, will Mexican tyrants gain control of Texas.
It has taken 6 decades of my life to come to the inescapable conclusion that this ‘Union’ is finished. Finito! Dead! Beyond Repair. Now that there isn’t an industrial advantage with the North, right-thinking states should finally put the actuality of secession to the test and not rely on some half-assed SC or ancient former Presidential decision to decide for us. It will not get any better as it is going.
No. Texas fought for its Independence and paid for it with the blood of patriots. To give Texas away would be to dishonor America and those who sacrificed themselves for such a great State.
And we know DEMOCRAPS would never do that...
However, because of the economic collapse, California has put off purchasing any new books until 2014. So, Texas rules. How about we get our textbooks from some state that still speaks English???
Maybe Montana or North Dakota or someplace like that?
Says it all. Hope everybody tells her, too. All I can think of is the blood shed for freedom. As far as illegals I want to scream, "OK you pay the bills!"
I was hating on her until she got to the Bill Martin thing, and I have to admit, that was embarrassing.
Just because their textbook committees are too lazy to do their own research doesn't mean they have to use the textbooks we decide upon.
One of the changes referred to is to call the USA a "Constitutional Republic" and not a Democracy. Can you believe these people in Texas wanting to be accurate? the gall of them!

This crazy woman needs to kept on Long Island.
Interesting opinions from a journalist.
Kinda like telling the legitimate citizens of Israel to get the Hell out.
I am upset that I wasted part of my life reading the ignorant sluts rant.
Typical Northeastern elitist trashing of Texas. I hear much of the same swill up here in Minnestoopid as well. Damnyankees!
If Liberals truly wanted to save the country, they would all hang themselves.....
