Its not that I have anything against Mexico; love the country; love the people. Its just that I would like to edge the state of Texas over the border and out of America. My issues with the Lone Star State, aside from the fact that it nurtured and launched the career of George Bush, is that the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup détat, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria.
In this case, the board is pushing an ultra-conservative, Christian agenda. But no religious or political agenda would be acceptable.
This is a cautionary tale because what happens in Texas doesnt necessarily stay in Texas. Textbook publishers are paying close attention. According to published reports, over the last year, they sent curriculum writers to the contentious Texas school board meetings to see which way the political winds were blowing down there.
Publishers are in the business of selling books; if evolution is a nonstarter and creationism is to be embraced, the publishers will tweak their texts accordingly. Of course, those same books will be purchased by other states, which may not concur with Texans religious theory. But Texas has 4.8 million schoolchildren, and business is business or, as Molly Ivins, the great Texas writer, used to say, Bidness is bidness.
In the past, the influence of conservatives on the Texas Board of Education has been balanced by the liberal influence of California, the largest purchaser of textbooks. However, because of the economic collapse, California has put off purchasing any new books until 2014. So, Texas rules.

Yeah, I know. That’s my point.
I wouldn’t expect anything less from a LIdiot, or anyone else from the New York area media.
I’ll bump that Meg!!
LIdiot! Perfect word..LOL
I grew up in Malverne and Dix Hills. I “knows” of what I speak. ;)
I download a lot of graphics from the Gardens of Long Island..old estates gone public.
It’s a beautiful area..Too bad the LIdiots rule!
The more the nation become more like Texas the more hope it has to survive. One of these days cowboy hats and boots will be all the rage in the city of Boston.
Straight from the dan rather school of non journalism.
If folks like this person had left God in schools our country wouldn’t be in as bad a shape as it is. It’a OK to add other religions and embrace other cultures, but it’s bad to add the religion this country was based upon? I’ll keep Texas thank you very much and you stay up wherever you are and put a lid on it!
If they threw Texas out of the union, I think I’d go to that party. If Mexico thought they might get it back, I’d certainly go, but only if I could stay there.
Is it too late to send the author to Cuba?
What the lib doesn’t recognize is that our founding fathers WERE divinely inspired. This does not mean that they were “doing God’s work because He personally appeared to them and said “make this land”.
They sought to HONOR God’s dominion. They sought to limit the powers of government.
They had seen Europe’s systemic religious intolerance (literally some principalities required the public to shift from Catholicism to Protestantism to Catholicism as the current monarch decreed).
They believed that Man has a freedom of religion (to follow the faith of his choice) without discrimination under the law (Islamic Law imposes a tax on Chrisitians and Jews and treats non-muslims differently under the law, considers them subhuman and not deserving of the same rights or protections under the law).
They also believed that there were other INALIENABLE rights that Man possesses and again that are protected from imposition by Man’s governance. Among those are a freedom of speech to criticize the government (there are examples of speech that is not protected including perjury, slander, libel, treason, espionage, and inciting a riot). Also a right to bear arms. And so forth.
Some people originally settled this land to escape religious persecution. To omit this from discussion of what makes America different from other nations is to rewrite history.
She needs to get off her high horse and go read up on American history some more. Been a long time since she was schooled.
“However, because of the economic collapse, California has put off purchasing any new books until 2014. So, Texas rules.”
That’s her best two sentences. >:-}
No irony here ... the writer simply can't see that the "economic collapse" in California is rooted it the idiotic libtard policies in place there.
Of course Texas rules ... it was impossible for it to turn out any other way.
Oh, and before I forget, large portions of California have already been assimilated back into Mexico
