The Obama Administration handed out more than $400 million in awards to federal employees last year, up by more than $80 million from the prior year, according to new government data.

The biggest winners were air traffic controllers and top managers in Washington, a review of fiscal year 2009 salary reports from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management showed.

OPM’s data, obtained by the Asbury Park Press through a freedom of information request, account for 1.3 million employees, or about 65 percent of the federal civilian work force.

Sorry, I often get you confused with someone (not a Freeper) who was. I think you have said in the past that you were not a Postal Inspector.

Potential war plans are usually secret anywhere you go ~ whether this country or another one.

They do a lot of that sort of planning at the Pentagon.

They also do design review on weapons systems. And, sometimes they design weapons systems.

Crazy business Fur Shur.

Now, regarding "intelligence", most intelligence services use USPS post office box service to collect and aggregate intelligence hard copy gathered abroad.

Sometimes those people crawl out of the woodwork ~ made the job interesting as could be.

Bonuses aren't used to "keep people". That was a reference to the higher rate of pay offered to federal employees in some metropolitan areas.

With 10%+ unemployment in the USA, I doubt retention of cushy civil service/union jobs would be much of a problem these days!

NO government employee should receive a freaking BONUS! Government does not MAKE MONEY!!

Although I would make exception for a whistle blower reward for those who expose waste and fraud and money is actually saved from their efforts!

That's right. Never was. Spent my time in "marketing" and "finance" ~ they used to flip our shop back and forth like a hot potato.

We could grant exceptions to the rules ~ which, of course, we were always very careful with ~ abstemious even ~ stingy in some eyes ~ cruel in others.

We had a top level manager for awhile who got to be known as "The Abominable No Man".

I was thinking of you just now driving your car out delivering mail out your right window with 4 ft of snow on the ground.

There were several tens of thousands of rural letter carriers did that this winter.

Cushy?!

Did you know that if you simply didn’t pay all federal employees for an entire year that it wouldn’t reduce the federal deficit enough for anyone to notice?

If the Fed Gov took it all away why does the CEO, Execs; Executive Staff and Management get huge bonuses at the end of the year and maintain glass/steel palace HQ offices. They look awfully expensive in taste for being impoverished by the Fed Gov regs/taxes. If you want to see a business hurt by taxes and regs, check out the ones where the boss’s office is used metal desks and file cabinets in a small dingy office. See any high tech companies that look like that in Silicon Valley????

The Navy used to have a program called the Beneficial Suggestion Program where sailors and Navy employees could suggest ways of making procedures more efficient or saving the Navy money. If adopted the Navy would give that person a cash award.

One of the most infamous BeneSuggs' was made by cryptographer named John Walker, who suggested that certain classified material was only handled in secure spaces and didn't really need two person accountability. His suggestion was adopted and that allowed him to copy that material and pass it to the Soviets.

Good! Then fire their *sses and be done with it! They add nothing. The states are fully capable of protecting the public interests of it citizens. Federal bureaucracy is worthless...

Dude... mailmen are employed by the BANKRUPT US Postal Service which, allegedly, is self funded. That’s just the point. Why not make the folk trudge to the post office or, better yet, a private PO BOX store and pick up their own mail??? Where does it say we get a daily pampering from the US postal service? THE UNIONS MADE IT SO and the pigs feast. Take their 3 pounds of daily junk mail and shove it!!!!!

They managed a $4,000,000,000,000 annual loss. I think that qualifies as failing upward.

Appears Obama graduated from the Christine Gregorie school of economics.

Classes included:

Spending other people’s money.

Spending your way out of a recession.

The most efficent way to turn a surplus into a deficit.

The best way to solve a deficit is spend more other people’s money.

When faced with a growing deficit, spend more.

“You can read all about the FERS and CSRS systems on the internet. You can continue to think the employee contributions don’t end up financing what they get out of the system if you want, but you’d be NUTS to do so.”

You are wildly misinformed, perhaps because you have been fed propaganda by the government unions. Here are the facts. Under FERS, employee contributions are 7% (6.2% for Social Security and 0.8% for FERS). The tax payer provides almost all funding for FERS (11.2%). For TSP, the employer contributes up to 5%.

I was mistaken about the COLA. The COLA is CPI-W minus 1% unless the CPI is less than 2% when you receive the full CPI-W. No other private or goverment pension plan receives CPI-W minus 1%.

Please dispute my facts with evidence. I doubt that you can provide anything other than union propaganda.

The alimony promise to the homosexual flamers and corrupt (because, yes, we have persecuted frauds and communist flaming friends of frauds) must be kept through federal hiring. While one may or may not agree that being black is an undue burden, it is indeed something that cannot be changed and requires its own idiosincratic budget. But Civil RIghts budgets for gays and unlimited spending to keep the standard of living of federal workers going is most disgusting.

This is why they hate the army, because though the army has its share of freeloaders, it in no way matches the civil fed gov. perks and freedom to ream America.

Gay Civil rights is code word for legalizing communism and corruption in congress, and making the abusers and rapists look like victims.

$400 million is the bonus to just the top 10 guys at AIG vs the entire MASSIVE federal workforce.

When Paulson went to the Fed, he took $700 million tax free with him from Goldman Sachs.

TAX F’gin FREE!
