About 7,900 state workers' compensation employees were furloughed illegally by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last year and are entitled to $25 million in back pay, a state appeals court ruled Friday.
A state law that exempts employees of the State Compensation Insurance Fund from hiring freezes and staff cutbacks also prohibits Schwarzenegger from cutting their workweeks, said the First District Court of Appeal in San Francisco.
The court endorsed a ruling in March by another appellate panel that found Schwarzenegger acted illegally when he furloughed about 500 lawyers and hearing officers employed by the same insurance fund. Friday's ruling applies to all the fund's employees.

No problem tell the court to write the check out of their budget.

Kinda reminds me of bankruptcy proceedings. Everybody lining up to be priority claimants to see who gets paid 1st out of a too small pot of assets.

Same in NY. The state legislators finally agreed on a budget.
The unions rushed to the judges and the whole plan was overturned.
Seems clear that the activist judges are now in control of our destiny.

A law that makes it illegal to lay off workers when there is no work? Unbelievable.

I’ll munch to that only if the center of the explosion is Pelosi’s house (with her inside).

(No wonder democrats don't mind taxes.THEY DON'T PAY THEM !)

Judges are appointed, in most states. When they assume the stance of promoting taxes, they are in effect taxing without representation. Seems to me that is enough for a legal revolution.

Must be nice having a job where you don't have to actually have to accomplish anything, but you have judicially mandated employment for life that not even a Governor can touch and mandatory yearly raises with platinum benefits

The ground work done by progressive while those of us in flyover country spent our time defending our belief in the Nation, the men and women in the military and basic family values is now paying off for the left.
The last presidential election cycle, fueled by a biased press, focused on personalities when in fact it was about the vacancies to come on the Supreme Court.
The real harm will come after Sotomayer and Kagan never once support the Constitution.
