Sarah Palin Lines Up UK Trip – and a Visit to Lady Thatcher
The Daily Mail ^ | Sunday, June 13, 2010 | Simon Walters

Controversial US politician Sarah Palin could soon be on her way to Britain to boost her hopes of challenging Barack Obama in the 2012 US presidential election.

Her representatives approached Margaret Thatcher to ask for a meeting as part of a bid to enhance her claim to be the ‘heir to Ronald Reagan’ and prepare to challenge Mr Obama.

And Lady Thatcher has agreed to see Mrs Palin, who stood as the Republican vice-presidential candidate in 2008. A spokesman said: ‘We had an informal approach asking if Lady Thatcher would meet Mrs Palin if she comes to Britain and we said yes.’

Any trip by Mrs Palin to Britain could cause potential problems for David Cameron.

Embarrassingly, Mrs Palin’s team have not contacted No. 10 so far.

One individual involved in the talks about the visit said: ‘Palin’s people haven’t said anything about meeting Cameron. Their main interest is getting a picture of her with Lady Thatcher. I’m not sure they know who David Cameron is.’

It would also pose a delicate diplomatic protocol dilemma for the Prime Minister, who is trying to defuse an acrimonious confrontation with Mr Obama over the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Outspoken Mrs Palin has launched a series of savage personal attacks on the US President.

Mr Cameron would have to decide whether to pose for photographs with her on the steps of No 10, invite her in through the back door – or meet her elsewhere more discreetly.

The meeting I’ve been waiting for.

She should meet all kinds of big name “senior” figures worldwide from Lady Thatcher in the UK to Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore etc. etc.

Sounds a wee bit like NBC saying Hillary was responsible for Republican wins last Tuesday

Oh really? Has she called him a pig?

"not sure they know who David Cameron is." This "person" could teach Snarky 101.

Even funnier is that, not only did Mr. Snark's snide comment backfire on Cameron (by inferring that he's not worth knowing), but it also elevated Sarah, who is simply a private citizen, as someone of such stature that it would be a serious breach of protocol for her not to call on the British PM.

“Wait ‘til she goes to Israel, maybe on this same trip. Then you will really see unglued.”

They will create some crisis to deflect any media attention from Palin’s (dare I say) diplomacy to our once most dependable allies.
Palin’s detractors will most likely need an exorcism performed - they will be seething with hate and anger.

Why is this "embarrassing?" She holds no elective office and is not a member of the administration. Both Palin and Thatcher are private citizens.

Exactly! Unlike a certain cretinous Speaker of the House, who went to Syria and tried to pull policy rank on a sitting President.

Why is this "embarrassing?"

Even as they thrash and flail about trying to discredit Sarah Palin, they automatically revert to mentally regarding her as a head of state.

That's why it's "embarrassing." They scarcely realize she's a private citizen and not President.

Why should this visit cause problems for Cameron, and why would not contacting him be embarrassing for Sarah's team? She is having a meeting with Margaret Thatcher, and not Cameron.

Sarah isn't meeting Thatcher in the capacity of a public official but rather as a private citizen meeting another private citizen, albeit an illustrious private citizen.

As usual, the leftist media in England (like any leftist media around the world) puts their typical slant and bias forward to downgrade Sarah and to maintain their ridicule and antipathy for her.

The good thing about it is that Sarah doesn't care about what they think. She will go on doing what she wants to do, and she will conduct her visit despite the media's sour grapes.

Let’s see how fast Obama sets up a meeting with Lady Thatcher.

Obama would sooner set up a meeting with the corpse of Lenin.
