One of his most sweeping demands of BP - that the company be made to foot the bill for a drilling moratorium imposed by his administration - has been undermined after it emerged that his own officials modified expert advice.
His call for BP to pay the wages of other companies' oil workers laid off during the halt to deep-water drilling and other related costs was initially viewed by the White House as a popular punitive tactic against the beleaguered British energy giant.
But the campaign has come under fire from US businesses, Republican politicians and even some lawyers suing BP over the oil spill as legally unenforceable "big government" posturing.
Most damaging is the revelation that the administration modified a report by a panel of experts advising Mr Obama. Two paragraphs were added calling for the moratorium, which was not part of the team's conclusions.
More than half of the experts, who were recommended for their know-how by the National Academy of Engineering, have since revealed that they actually opposed a halt to drilling.
Ken Salazar, the interior minister who ordered the ban, has now apologised. "The experts involved in crafting the report gave us their recommendation and their input," he said. "It was not their decision on the moratorium. It was my decision and the president's decision to move forward."
The controversy has fuelled the belief that Mr Obama is trying to deflect criticism of his handling of the crisis by lashing out at BP - despite reportedly assuring David Cameron, the British prime minister, in a telephone conversation yesterday that he had "no interests" in undermining the company's value.
The President, who has repeatedly used the company's former name, British Petroleum, as a reminder of its foreign roots, said last week that he was looking for "ass

Just read the Fifth Amendment. It’s all in there ~ says Obama is acting extra-Constitutionally and must be stopped.
Obambi seems to have it in for the Brits - is it due to age old colonial era resentment among Kenyans towards the Brits? That would not make sense since he is a native of Hawaii.

The POTUS himself can't even keep his BS and lies strait.
No, it because the British are the closest thing to American heritage out there.
The Bolsheviks have always had it in for Britain as well.
He’s a weakling and a fool. I hope our country survives until he either implodes or gets voted out of office.
Obama, bat-shit crazy and lovin’ every minute of it.
He fired Birnbaum as soon as he got the news...We don’t want no witnesses...I really expect her to wind up in Marcy Park.
I don’t get it. I have friends in relatives in the UK. Could they really believe that the President of the United States of America, Barak Obama, hates their country more than ours. I’m no chauvinist, but I push my chest out and say with certainty, “He hates us more.”
Why does anyone, anywhere, believe one word of what this deranged individual has to say?
No, they imprisoned his so called grandfather..
Once again, Obozo completely misunderestimates flyover country Americans. We can be madder than hell at BP but still recognize when a president attempts to go well beyond his constitutional authority.
In other words, we aren’t the inner city gimmie gimmie gimmie crowd he’s so used to organizing.
A majority of gulf coast residents, many of whom know, are related to, or themselves work in the oil fields oppose a halt to drilling. Most of the country who would rather see 'cheap oil' than 'expensive oil' over the long haul oppose a halt to drilling. Looks like just a couple of commies in the whitehouse, and the standard list of envirowackos, wanted the halt in dirlling. Best to keep oil companies healthy so they can clean up their messes (works just like it does in the kitchen).
The real money is in the use of dispersements. There is a company called NALCO. Goldman Sachs, Blackstone and Apollo all purchased NALCO. NALCO is based in Chicago .. NALCO is associated with the University of Chicago Argonne program. The Obamas both worked for the University of Chicago. UChicago Argonne received $164,000,000 in stimulus funds this past year and just added two new executives to its roster: one from NALCO, the other from the Illinois Department of Education.
IF you dig a little deeper you will find NALCO is also associated with Warren Buffett, Maurice Strong, Al Gore, Soros, Apollo, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs, Hathaway Berkshire. Warren Buffet/Hathaway Berkshire increased their holdings in NALCO just last November. (Timing is everything).
Itis another “stupid” Republican mistake to fall in the trap of defend BP! BP is an irresponsible corporation! Don’t defend it and give the Marxist boy a way out.
Amendment 5No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. It would be interesting to see where Mr. Obama thinks he derives the authority to assign to BP the responsibility for his decision to deprive the people of the right to extract oil from the Gulf.
And since Obama had broad authority from day one to take action to contain the spill, and did essentially nothing for a month, it is now too late for him to start blaming others for his inaction as well as his action. When you have the authority to act and do nothing, you are responsible for the difference you might have made, but did not. If you sue BP, they now have the defense that in deciding to bid on the lease and drill Deep Horizon, they relied on the fact that you had the authority and hence the responsibility to ameliorate any unexpected outcome - but you took no timely action.

Well played, Philipp Sherwell...
If you are injured by the event in the Gulf if you go after BP you are asking for chump change. If you get a stupid lawyer who thinks your best route is to use the Federal Tort Claims At, you have an idiot on your payroll.
Nosirreebob ~ what you really want is the FIFTH AMENDMENT. That puts the determination of value in the hands of the judges and not the paymasters at BP, or Obama's lackeys in DOJ or Interior!
In the short run, take everything you can get your hands on, but file that FIFTH AMENDMENT "Takings" claim now ~
