Zev Chafets, who has ridden the publicity train for his new, sympathetic biography of Rush Limbaugh into a gig as Limbaugh's emissary to the rest of the media, explains why the talk show host booked Elton John to play his wedding -- for $1 million.

Good golly, let’s throw Rush under the bus! Why don’t we wait until he returns at which point I’m sure he’ll get around to talking about this.

I support Civil Unions and I am a conservative.

Sorry, but I’m sick of country music and conservatism. I’m a conservative, I can never go to a concert unless it’s approved country? Ughhhh.

The left is making a bigger deal of this then is necessary. I'm sure Charlie Daniels isn't available for every gig. lol
If I had the cash, I would have liked to book Elton John for my wedding too.

There are many country singers who don’t have conservative values.
Perhaps Rush’s new bride is an Elton John fan.

I figured this would turn into a "RushBash" because he happens to like Elton John's music. I like some of his music too.
But take, for instance, Jerry Lee Lewis; now as an amatuer boogie-woogie piano player, I think Lewis is a very talented singer and musician. He's a song stylist and a true rock and roll hero to me.
Having said that, his behavior and/or character stinks. He is very self-absorbed and most of the time acts like an ignorant redneck with absolutely no smarts at all.
Would I like to be his friend...probably not...but I would pay good money to see him perform and hear his music.
As for Elton John...I used to play his music on the radio back in my deejay days, and I liked his music before I even knew he was gay. Now, knowing he's gay does not automatically make his music suddenly unacceptable.
Rush used to be a deejay, and probably played and liked John's music on the radio too. Who knows...maybe Elton John is his new wife's favorite singer.
There is way too much speculation regarding this without knowing the facts...which I'm sure Rush will explain when he returns.
Meanwhile, those chasing this "enquirer" story should pacify themselves trying to find out if Sarah Palin got breast implants...or go get a real job, whichever you like.

A good deal of what Limbaugh says during his broadcasts is pure theater designed to play to his audience. His broadcast statements do not necessarily reflect Limbaugh's true-(if such exist)-personal views.
It is not much of an exaggeration to state that the last time people were stating and acting on their true beliefs was during the 16th and 17th centuries.
It is our misfortune to live in times where the actor, the player, the musician now rule the roost. Sadly people expect Limbaugh's-( and any other public figure's)-chest tones of deep conviction! Today, it is theater, those who govern and/or set opinions are actors. Remember Bill Clinton carrying his bible. This clown we have today is pure theater i.e. going to "kick ass!" Actors and players cast up by a diverse population. No longer a People a population.

I care more about the person who conducts the marriage ceremony than the person providing the entertainment.
At least Jerimiah Wright didn’t marry Rush.

When did you NOT know Elton John was gay?

BS! There’s no such thing as a “cosmopolitan conservative”. There may be cosmopolitan Republicans, but even they are against gay marriage (not civil unions), gays in the military and promoting the gay culture.

All the media conservatives are more media than conservative when it comes to homo issues. Why? Because there are homos all over the media--particularly in advertising--and they want to keep them happy.
Frankly, I don't get my morality from guys like Rush. Like Glenn Beck and Yawn Vanity, he's just a talking head who is occasionally right on political issues.

I am 100% for individual liberty in areas that don’t concern the government.
Allowing two people to share their assets how they see fit is a conservative position IMO.

“a gig as Limbaugh's emissary to the rest of the media”
An absurd remark like that tells you how absolutely clueless the mainstream media and its opinion columnists really are. Why would someone like Rush Limbaugh need an emissary? He's on the radio fifteen freaking hours a week and these folks can't hear him. Ay Carumba!
He does what he does on the radio, and then that's about it. He had the TV show back in the 90’s, but after that he has stayed pretty much a private citizen apart from the radio. OK, well except for that ESPN thing.
The wedding received minimal coverage - in the Palm Beach Post and Jose Lambiet’s column/site you read more about the security measures that effectively kept the media out of The Breakers than about anything of substance that actually went on at the event, save Elton John.
I think that one of the more admirable things about Rush is that he knows what he is very good at, and he stays with it and avoids branching out into other things (TV, etc.) and just lives his life apart from the radio program. And the rest of the media, who can't figure out what he is saying for 15 hours a week, certainly can't figure out the remaining 153 hours in his week. And that's fine.

he (Rush) regards homosexuality as most likely determined by biology, considers other peoples sex lives to be none of his business and supports gay civil unions
I am a conservative and I agree with Rush on these three points. Especially the second one. I guess you would call me a MYOB conservative.
