Zev Chafets, who has ridden the publicity train for his new, sympathetic biography of Rush Limbaugh into a gig as Limbaugh's emissary to the rest of the media, explains why the talk show host booked Elton John to play his wedding -- for $1 million.

The cosmopolitan conservatives who make up much of the pundit class simply don't get exercised about gay issues.

Bingo.

sexism against liberal women

How can an educated man make such an ignorant statement.

If there is a prejudice, the description confirms that the prejudice is against liberal people.

And they frequently ignore it even when it extends to lobbying to abolish age of consent laws. Which Elton does.

Truthfully, many of us have friends/family who are openly gay, and while we may not like the idea of marriage, we are resigned to the fact that they are going to live together and there will be some legal way that they will be united. Personally I think that marriage will be a church issue and people will be joined in some sort of contract type thing (civil union?) where they will decide how property will be divided etc. I don’t see much we can do about it anyway.

Rush isn’t conservative. He passes for one because the USA has almost zero conservatives and doesn’t really want them. That includes most of the Americans who swear they’re conservative.

The more I hear about Rush’s choice, the sadder I become.

What does it mean, to "get exercised about someething?"

Is this a misprint? Did they mean to "get excited about something?"

Rush has always said he was an entertainer.

Many people LOVED Archie Bunker, the character portrayed by very liberal actor Carrol O'Connor .

There is a lot of money to be made telling people what they want to hear;you don't even have to believe it yourself or live by those beliefs.

In America,play-acting in movies and politics bring wealth and success.

If only everyone adhered to that belief.

And you base your conclusion on the fact that Rush invited Elton John to perform at his wedding?

Please, that’s absurd. He believes in civil unions and therefore is not conservative.

Elton needed the gig so he could buy more flowers.

“Rush has always said he was an entertainer’

Yeah, but Rush has *never* said he was *only* an entertainer.

Whether one considers Rush just an entertainer (a method conveniently used, mostly be liberals, to dismiss him) or both a conservative AND an entertaining one is largely a subjective judgment.

I don’t agree with much of anybody on every single damn issue of interest to conservatives (and I’d be more pleased if RL had found some different source of wedding party entertainment), but Rush has had an impact more profoundly positive than the combined efforts of all the so-called conservatives who routinely gripe that he’s not congruent with them on every single one of their concerns.

One would have thought that Rush would have picked someone from the Country Western arena. Not full country but a cross over who loves the country and the Lord. Carrie Underwood for example. There are so many to pick form who have Conservative values.
