We've been hearing a lot of comments recently about a national coup d'etat scheduled for sometime in late summer or early fall and designed to circumvent the coming Democrat debacle in the 2010 elections.
This is an example of political gothic of a type that I tend to overlook. But my interest was piqued by the fact that it has been mentioned several dozen times in the comment threads of essays of mine in recent weeks. I've had a little difficulty grasping exactly how such a thing would work, so I've spent the last few days puzzling it out.
The contention is that at some point before the upcoming November elections, an "incident" of some violent but unknown nature will occur that will provide Obama with the opportunity to declare "martial law" across the country, which will involve the "cancellation" or "postponement" of the elections. This will enable the Obama dictatorship to take off its humanist mask and put its true agenda into play, part of which involves sending JRD up to Prudhoe Bay to feed moss to the caribou for the next ten years.
Breaking this thesis into its component parts, we find

Why would he bother? Once he gets on the books what he wants on the books, it will be impossible to get it off the books.

What I’m saying is that they will be disobeying lawful orders. Are they willing to do that?
Are they supportive of Lt Col Lakin, who has made the same choice (to disobey what the military calls “lawful orders”)? Or are they saying that the rank-and-file cannot be allowed to wander from the herd regardless of how valid or pressing their reasons?
The measure by which you measure others (like Lt Col Lakin) is the measure by which you will be measured. Are the people you know prepared to do exactly what Lt Col Lakin did? Because in the context of martial law, refusing to follow orders is the same thing as what Lt Col Lakin is doing now. If they balk at Lt Col Lakin now, they will never have the conscience that allows them to do the same when their time comes.

The difference is that we saw or knew that they had birth certificates and weren’t surrounded by terrorists/Marxists, taught by terrorists/Marxists or appointed terrorist/Marxists to their cabinet.
He (zer0) has stated his goals and they all point toward “fundamentally changing America”.

It amazes me anyone can still say “he won’t do that” or “that can’t ever happen”, after what we’ve witnessed since November 2008. We could all probably make a list a mile long of things we thought “couldn’t” or “wouldn’t” happen... first and foremost, that America would cheer a Marxist Muslim to the Oval Office a scant 7 years after 9/11.
IMO, the Left is absolutely salivating for an excuse to do violence. The near daily antagonizing in the media, the hysteria about the Tea Partiers, the union thuggery on people’s private property .... all of this is designed to draw a reaction that they can then “quell”. They know what November is likely to bring. They are simply not going to allow something as antiquated as “free election” get in their way. Intimidation, fraud, suspension.... it’s all the same to them.
Tanks in the street and boots on the ground would not be needed to effect martial law. Except for the 10 percenters,the population could be goaded into quick submission by control of the food, energy, and communication supply chains. Grocery store's would be empty within 24 hours. Few would be able to survive and resist by their own skills and resources.

We have a PC military now and it couldn’t have gotten to be that way if there weren’t a very large liberal contingent in the officer corps.
I’d like to agree, but I would pin my hopes more on the mid level commanders rather than many of the top Generals.
A lot of politics go into making General. Take Adm Mike Mullen for example. Backing the repeal of “Don’t Ask - Don’t Tell” against advice by the branches of the military.
Gen Powell was another political opportunist.
Some of the Generals would be sticking their fingers in the air trying to sense where the political winds are blowing rather than acting for the benefit of the country and to uphold their oath to the Constitution.

And if the Obamanistas really made up their mind to execute a coup, who could possibly stop them? The military? I wouldn’t count on it — it would be divided at best.

A woman stays in an abusive relationship because even before she was able to think rationally she had instilled in her a belief that she would be a bad person if she fought back. Even when she can rationally see that it’s hurting everybody for her to be walked all over, she has to do it because her conscience would make her feel terrible if she gave up her victimhood. Her feelings have been conditioned into her; they are not rational.
We are constantly being conditioned to believe that people who resist are tinfoil hat wearers. For heaven’s sake, Janet Napolitano issued counsel to all law enforcement that the Founding Fathers themselves must be watched as potential terrorists because they believed in limited government!
The military is based on obedience. You do what you’re told. It just feels wrong to not do what you’re told. I bet you could talk to the guy who reported Abu Ghraib and he had to fight everything in his gut in order to report that.
Lt Col Lakin is a gut check. If you recoil against what Lt Col Lakin has done, then it’s almost certain that you will recoil against your own thoughts of disobeying lawful orders. The question then becomes whether the feelings carry the day, or the commitment carries the day.
The enemies of America know all about psy-ops. That’s what they’ve been doing for the last 50+ years. Ayers and Co believed that there would be 25 million people out of all America - 10% - that he could not “re-educate”. Only one in ten would be able to follow principle and go against their own feelings or Communist-conditioned conscience.
That’s what we’re really up against. An illegal usurper as CIC can’t control the military by physical might. The only way he can do it is by MIND control - by so conditioning the military people towards unquestioning obedience that they would not resist because their CONSCIENCE is so seared it wouldn’t allow them to resist.
As I said, it is clear that the military leadership and justice system is saying that THE LEGALITY OF THE ORDERS CANNOT BE QUESTIONED. You tell me whether that is a move toward preserving the non-political nature of the military, or whether it is a move toward conditioning the military to obey even illegal orders (which can never be questioned anyway).

You are overanalyzing things. The military hates these people and that is all you need to understand.
While I believe that some in the Obama administration have at least thought of this scenario, two things will keep it from happening. First, thanks to the Second Amendment, large parts of the population are armed and would willingly take up arms to overthrow such tyranny. This is exactly why our Founding Fathers created the second amendment. Second, the US military would not stand idly by while this happens and I am certain military commanders would send troops into Washington to depose Obama and arrest members of his administration and Congress who perpetrated this coup.
