Sarah Palin's effort to shape the 2010 political landscape got a boost Tuesday when three candidates she supported prevailed in their contested primaries.
But the former Alaska governor's impact on races remains a matter for debate.
"I think any credit given to me is way overblown because no one individual can tip it one way or another for a candidate," Ms. Palin told Fox News on Wednesday, when asked if her nod helped tip the scales in favor of women on the ballot Tuesday, Carly Fiorina in California and Nikki Haley in South Carolina. She also endorsed Terry Branstad, who won Tuesday's GOP gubernatorial primary in Iowa.
Strategists say the support of Ms. Palin, a favorite of the grassroots conservative tea party movement, brings media attention to local races and can help candidates distinguish themselves from the Republican pack.
Ms. Palin's support can also translate into money. She has weighed in on roughly two dozen House races this election season. A House Republican political operative estimated that candidates in House races could see an immediate $10,000 to $25,000 in donations after an endorsement by Ms. Palin.
But others, including some Republican strategists, say her influence is less substantial.
"The campaigns that won ran better races than their opponents. It's that simple," said Kevin Madden, a Republican strategist and former campaign aide to Mitt Romney, a likely Palin rival if she chooses to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.(continued)

Neither have I, but I've come to expect greatness from this Lady. She's everything we need and want in an American leader.
As much as her reasoning for endorsing McCain has been discussed on FR, it's certain that you already know the answer to your own seminar question.
The only "inexplicable, oddball" thing I see, is a handful of so-called conservatives swimming hard against the tide of widespread acceptance of Sarah Palin.
She has neither confirmed nor denied an “I-promised-him” meme.
Gee. That means exactly......nothing.
Care to comment on the subject at hand, or are you only here to sling mud at her?
It was just a little over two years ago that the question of who McCain's running mate would be was being discussed among our lunch group. They were all pro-Mitt, but honorable mention went to all the other RINO contenders. I stated it would be Sarah Palin, with no doubt.
Unanimously, they asked, "Sarah who? Who the heck is that?"
I had no inside info. It just seemed obvious, considering the impending Obama vs. McCain disaster. Now, considering the ongoing Obama disaster, with Sarah Palin being the only national figure pounding his agenda daily, it just seems obvious that she will be the next president.
I’m here to taunt the Sarahbots who get all bent out of shape at the whisper of “psst... John McCain lives”
That's fairly obvious...
I've been saying for a long time now, that all she has to do is apply for the job, and she's got it. The plain truth is that she won the 2012 presidential election 18 months ago.
I don't even want to go through the motions of a primary in two years. I feel that the country is just marking time until Inauguration Day 2013.
Yeah, that’s likely: McCain said, “I’d like you to be my running mate as long as you promise to endorse me in my re-election campaign, assuming we lose to Obama.”
From: "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Blind Seer: You seek a great fortune, you three who are now in chains. You will find a fortune, though it will not be the one you seek. But first... first you must travel a long and difficult road, a road fraught with peril. Mm-hmm. You shall see thangs, wonderful to tell. You shall see a... a cow... on the roof of a cotton house, ha. And, oh, so many startlements. I cannot tell you how long this road shall be, but fear not the obstacles in your path, for fate has vouchsafed your reward. Though the road may wind, yea, your hearts grow weary, still shall ye follow them, even unto your salvation.
I imagine her Carly Fiorina nod is unpopular, but Fiorina could be an important backer if Sarah runs. Dad-gum-it, though, I feel BAD for California. First Ahh-nuld and now Carly Fiorina.
hey you
Howdy!
I absolutely agree
My thought exactly. The line should really read “Demrat Party coopted RINO strategists....”
It’s also interesting to see how RINOs have adopted political tactics identical to the Demrats. One of them is simply to ignore any person, fact or event that doesn’t fit the left’s template.
Obviously that works up to a point. But reality generally wins out in the long run.
So Palin, despite almost single-handedly resurrecting conservatism, has endorsed McCain. Cry me a fecking river. And I was amongst those who, at the time, were very vocal in censuring her for this 'unexplainable lapse'. So Palin did something I didn't approve of. I had a choice - continue to pout or suck it up and move forward.
Sure, it would be nice if we lived in a perfect world where only bona fide conservatives ran and got elected. But back in the real world it is somewhat an act of self-flaggelation to support candidates who can only manage to attract 16%, 1%, or less, of the votes in their own Party.
I honestly believe that many who are thinking about seeking the GOP nod in '12 are remaining on the sidelines until they know what Mrs Palin will do. Only a self-centered, delusional fool would face this lady in the primaries.
“While Ms. Palin is perceived as a contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, operatives for both House and Senate campaigns said there was little coordination between the party establishment and her operation.”
There is little coordination between her and the party establishment...the establishment that backed Crist, Scozzafava, etc.
That is one of the best things I have ever heard about Sarah Palin.
“I feel BAD for California. First Ahh-nuld and now Carly Fiorina.”
Yea. Arnold and Carly Fiorina are cut from the same cloth. Arnold is proablrtion and Fiorina is proabortion. Oops. No. She is prolife...endorsed by Susan B. Anthony list.
Well, Arnold is anti Second Amendment and so is Fiorina. Oops. No. The NRA endorsed Fiorina.
Well, Arnnold believes in man made global warming and Fiorina does too. oops. Fiorina ridiculed global warming agitprop, calling it the “weather”.
But Arnold and Carly really are the same. I just have this feeling. /sarc/

Romney/Whitman:2012
He's pleased that his BFF won the Republican gubernatorial primary in California.
Yes, that is one of the best things written about Governor Palin, EVER. :)
