Israel must send Turkey a clear message that if Turkish warships are sent to accompany the next flotilla trying to break the embargo on Gaza, these will be considered acts of war by Israel , Uzi Dayan, former deputy Chief of General Staff, told Army Radio Monday morning.

"If the Turkish prime minister joins such a flotilla,” Dayan said, “we should make clear beforehand this would be an act of war, and we would not try to take over the ship he was on, but would sink it.”

“If Israel doesn't make this clear beforehand, the Turks will grow increasingly self-assured, and we may indeed find ourselves facing such a scenario, which could have been averted.”

Uzi Dayan attacked a letter sent by Navy veterans calling for a commission of inquiry as confused and irresponsible.

Yes, being an AF type myself, the first thing I checked was the flying inventory. The thing I am wondering about is the spare parts inventory for the flying stock. No spare parts, no fly. Has Bambi cut them off yet?

Interesting question. IMO, it depends on how many political, left-leaning, PC generals and admirals currently in uniform.

It is obvious the Hussein convinced Turkey to do the blockade run. He provoked the Israelis on purpose, using the muslim Turks as his tool. Whence this newfound concern in Turkey for Gaza? That is brand new - if anything Turkey has been historically moderate among arabs relative to Israel. Why else would Bibi exit the US and cut his visit short, while Hussein meets with Abbas shortly afterward and gives him hundreds of millions of $. The One orchestrated this whole thing, shortly after Rahm’s visit to Israel. Its a power play. Israel is on to it and they are having none of it. They will stand firm.

A fine example of how “humanitarian” activities can make things much worse. Non-governmental organizations should stay out of foreign policy.

Turkey is a NATO state.

To make things worse, Israel's boarding of the Turkish Flotilla in international waters may be construed as a possible act of war under international law.(Yes, wars have started over boarding other nations ships and it can happen again). If this act of the Israeli's is held to indeed be an act of war by Turkey or the international community, that means that Israel preemptively attacked a NATO ally's ship which could in theory invoke the mutual defense clause of the Treaty against Israel. I doubt that the powers that be would allow such a thing to happen, but if the NATO says it won't defend Turkey, then Turkey could accuse NATO of acting in bad faith and pull out of NATO as a sham organization. This could seriously cripple many strategic assets of the US in the Middle East and significantly alter the regional balance of power. (Lets not forget the US Nuclear missiles based in Turkey.)

The US is not in a position to sustain another major war, we have squandered our money on banker bailouts, bogus health care takeovers, and the last two conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq have had a huge price tag as well. Israel's attacking a Turkish warship could cause a major conflict, and the US is ill prepared to engage in another major war at this point. A major war at this point could completely financially destroy the US. Our money is too little, our troops are spread too thin, and our political leaders are totally inept. If the Turks don't back down from this Israeli warning there are stormy seas ahead. If they do back down they're could be internal political problems in Turkey and a loss of face abroad. (Lets not also forget that conflict on the Korean Peninsula could break out at any moment as well, so that would raise the risk of a major two front war. and yes the Chinese and the Russians would probably get involved and probably not on our side.)

if 0bamao responded affirmatively to a Turkey request that the NTO treaty be invoked, would our military take arms against Israel?

Either that, or mutiny. It doesn't have to be a public mutiny, of course - it could be all decided within the Oval Office.

Considering that Israel has nuclear weapons, the possibility of the USA waging a war against Israel is very low, IMO. Obama will not issue an order. If the Turkish ship is destroyed and all on board killed (including the Turkish Prime Minister) NATO could tell Turkey that there is nothing to do until someone invades Turkish land. I doubt that NATO mutual defense agreement will kick in if a NATO country invades some other country and the invasion forces get what is due. Some countries still defend their borders, though that art is largely lost in the USA.

IIRC, Israeli warbirds use Israeli avionics. I am far from an expert, though.

Can you imagine the Muslims trying this if President Nixon, Reagan, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Truman, both Bushs or even Ford were in office? The kind of people that rise to leadership in a nation-state or terrorist organization can smell a p*ssy and a pretender a mile away, and they know that Mr. Obama is both weak and on their side. I don’t think most people realize how dangerous the next 2-3 years are going to be.

Well, this is where we get to see how allied to Islam the President is...if he visits Turkey and bows before PM Erdogan then we’ll know he’s backing the retrograde Turks...pass the Armenian coffee please...

The US is not in a position to sustain another major war

Land wars far from home with complex lines of supply through the Middle East, perhaps not. However the US is certainly in a position to win a large number of simultaneous sea-air wars.

What does NATO do if Israel sinks a military vessel of one of its member partners?

What does the US, one of the founders of NATO, do?

Let them send warships to break the blockade and see.

What did NATO do when Argentina attacked British troops and occupied British territory? Nothing overt.

The Chinese would be fools to attack us. Economically, we are their manufacturing bread and butter - not to mention that they hold massive amounts of our debt instruments.
