Cops Search For Missing Portland Second Grader
Americas Most Wanted ^ | 6-6-2010 | Americas Most Wanted

Authorities in Multnomah County, Ore. say the last reported sighting of Kyron Horman was walking down the hall of Skyline Elementary School on June 4, 2010. Kyron and his stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, had come to school that morning to attend a science fair. At around 8:45 a.m., Kyron left his stepmom and headed to class. However, cops say, the second grader never made it.

When Kyron didn't show up at his school bus stop later that afternoon, his parents called the school. Kyron was nowhere to be found.

Over the course of the next few days, air units, canine search teams and multiple local law enforcement agencies -- including Portland's FBI bureau -- joined the search for Kyron. The area between Kyron's home and his school was canvassed in addition to 20 miles of road.

On June 6, 2010, Multnomah County investigators interviewed 200 children and family members from Skyline Elementary. Authorities have classified Kyron as an endangered missing child based on the fact that he's been missing for days. There is no current evidence that Kyron has been kidnapped.

If you have any information about the whereabouts of Kyron Hormon, please call our hotline at 1-800-CRIME-TV.

At least “Kyron” is more or less pronounceable.

And here’s hoping he shows up soon.

Saw this on my local news. Praying that they find him and he’s alright.

How can a child just vanish like that?

Scary stuff.

Poor little boy; his parent(s) spelled “Chiron” wrong. Is he Greek?

No doubt they are starting with any non-custodial relatives.

Poor little fellow.

8 years old is too old to just wander off, unless he has some sort of mental handicap. By 8 kids know to go to the fire station or the police station if they get lost.

Prayers for him and his family.

And no one noticed he was absent without a parent reporting him absent?

My children don't attend school, but one of them tried the public school's summer session when he was this boy's age. One of the rules was that a parent had to call to report a child's absence. He had to stay home a day or two, and I purposely didn't call the school, just to see what they would do. Would they notice he was missing and that no one had called to report his absence?

Apparently not. They never called to check or anything. That told me a child could be missing all day, and the parent wouldn't know until school let out.

Heard the KGW-Portland news at noon saying that all schools will now have a mandatory auto-call to students' homes verifying absence. A little too late...

Someone inside that school has taken that boy.

Just my thoughts on this sad story.

How certain are they that the step-mom actually dropped him off at school? I wonder if there is video or witnesses other than her that place him at the school that morning?

I believe they said this photograph of him was taken that morning at the science fair, standing in front of his project.

My wife has forgotten a few times over the years to call the school when one of our kids was out sick. Got a call each time. The system obviously doesn’t work very well when the school doesn’t use it.

I’d bet a shiney new nickel that either his mother or maternal grandparents took the boy. I hope I’m right because that would mean he isn’t in any physical danger.
