Although he had already been presented before the media, the National Police made Dutch citizen Joran van der Sloot march past (again) when the Interior Minister, Octavio Salazar, held a press conference. In an eventful presentation, and in the company of the Chief of the Main Directorate of the Police, Miguel Noble, Salazar avoided giving details of the investigation.
The unusual event was crowned when the presumed murderer of Stephany Flores was shown before journalists for the third time, which generated disorder in the Interior Department headquarters.
The police minister and authorities refused to respond to the questions that the journalists tried to ask them.
He will still have choices when he gets to prison, his cell mate will ask him if wants to be the Mommy or the Daddy.
I don't think they have juries in Perú and other Latin American countries.
FBI agents can arrest people on American soil. NOT in Aruba.
“There must be an upcoming election in Peru. I vote for the interior minister. I only wish that I could understand Spanish better.”

I was there this morning...you’ll just have to assume that in many cases, when it says “his” it means “her” when they refer to Stephany.
Yes, usually he's used to making "dates"...
Speaking of MOTHERS, has anyone seen or heard anything from, or about his mother? When her son's connection to Natalee Halloway came to light, she was on TV wasn't she? Didn't Greta speak to her? I haven't even seen any attempts by the press to contact her in whatever country she's now residing. Usually the press parks themselves outside their homes. I know his father is dead, but the mother's still alive right?
Excuse me, but why aren’t you yelling about the sting operation, including money paid and taping for evidence at a trial? Just as much on their soil as an arrest would have been.
Peru has a Civil Law system similar to that of Aruba and the Netherlands (ie family to Mr. van der Sloot). He will face a panel of judges, and will be convicted or acquitted based solely on the preponderance of evidence against him.
Yes, I read it one of the stories posted on the interweb yesterday that quoted either his mom, or his mother's spokesman saying the obligatory, "Oh, we can't believe this is true, blah, blah, blah". I'll look through my browser's history, and I'll post the link if I can find it.
None of that was done for almost a month after payment had been transferred. That just sloppy and untimely lawyering...." <<<<
I read a very interesting hypothesis on a different board, days ago, when the case first broke, it was the poster's opinion of why there hadn't been the procedures you speak of.
The poster believed that the Feds were hoping to lure JVDS here to the USA, where they could prosecute to the full extent of the law and have him sentenced to 50 years in prison for extortion.
i.e., .... that perhaps they didn't trust Aruba/Holland and instead preferred to tell Joran that there was a lump sum awaiting him in Birmingham, Alabama.
Why do I suddenly get the nagging feeling we’re about to be treated to another example of the high quality Latin American police work we’ve come to expect? You know the kind: Lock ‘em up until they extract a confession, and if that doesn’t work, spring ‘em and repeat until you find someone who’ll confess.
LOL!
Yeah, I read that Anita is just shocked; in fact she's so shocked that evidentally she's stopped writing disparaging comments about Natalee Holloway on her own Facebook page and I think I read that she also removed her son as a Facebook "friend" -- or something, LOLOLOL
"Calm down, Calm down...Gringo! Gringo! Let him talk! Please talk to me! calm down, Calm down...Now what are you going to say?"
That was all we could make out beyond the speech. Cheers!
I forgot where I heard it - maybe on Greta - that the mother (or was it her spokesperson?) issued a statement something like she was devastated what has happened. I forgot what else but it sounded like the proper thing to say.
I suppose that's possible. I'm not sure how likely it is, for two reasons. First, I have no earthly idea how they'd talk this kid to coming to the country. He hasn't been here for some time, on advise of counsel. Maybe's he's either too stupid to follow that advice, or he's arrogant to believe he wouldn't get caught, but those are big "ifs".
Secondly, because this isn't a capital case, or a case with the possibility of a life sentence, extradition with the Netherlands would have been fairly straight forward (unlike what's going on with Polanski in Switzerland, but for other reasons). They could have requested extradition, and had him here long before the summer was over, possibly even before the 4th of July.
I've been in the government long enough to see a CYA show. That announcement by the BHM USA on Thursday was a CYA show. They had been sitting on this and then he goes and kills another girl. They knew they stepped in it.
And Laci Peterson disappearing at Christmastime, and then her remains were recovered at Easter.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
You’re right.

Evidentally earlier this year webmasters detected that either Anita and/OR Joran were visitors to websites about NH, stuff I'd never heard anywhere else before.
