Although he had already been presented before the media, the National Police made Dutch citizen Joran van der Sloot march past (again) when the Interior Minister, Octavio Salazar, held a press conference. In an eventful presentation, and in the company of the Chief of the Main Directorate of the Police, Miguel Noble, Salazar avoided giving details of the investigation.
The unusual event was crowned when the presumed murderer of Stephany Flores was shown before journalists for the third time, which generated disorder in the Interior Department headquarters.
The police minister and authorities refused to respond to the questions that the journalists tried to ask them.
“I wouldnt be surprised if one of the Aruban authorities tipped him off that he had just been filmed in a sting and suggested that he skip town.”
I think that maybe what happened.
Old time payback for Urine’s deceased Dad ... .
Joran is having his “we’re not in Kansas anymore” moment. Joran, this might be a good time to get religion.
I agree with everything you've said.
With respect to this latest FBI "sting", I would also point out that the failure to effect arrest isn't the fault of the FBI, but probably is the fault of the US Attorney. In cases like this - a sting operation involving international wire transfers and the like, its the US Attorney's office running the show, not the local FBI field office.
In effect, the failure to effect timely arrest is ERIC HOLDER's fault, no one else.
I agree with you ....
Urine will wish he was dead, if he goes to Lurigancho Prison in Peru.
The other prisoners gonna be callin’ him “Urine in der Chute!
Its ahamed Daddy isnt still alive to see this...
Aruba was allowing the FBI to do a sting on Joran in Aruba involving Beth pretending to go along with his attempt to extort money in return for telling her what he did with Natalie. It’s on tape. Aruba was in agreement.
A girl is dead, following the decision not to arrest him for THAT but to seek more NAtalie case info.
They thought ARubans would keep tabs on him in the meanwhile, but he left for Peru and a murder happened where he’s seen on hotel surveillance tape.
Lurigancho Prison looks like the midnight express prison.

I know all of that; what I asked about is.... I wasn’t aware that the FBI can arrest ANYBODY on Aruban soil.
If JVDS had been on American soil, then they have legal jurisdiction, but not in Aruba.
I totally agree with you!

Since when do WE have the legal authority to arrest ANYBODY in a foreign country????
I thought that this is why, this is the purpose for which extradition agreements are made between countries.

Clearly, we don't. But, the USA has the power to go the grand jury, get an indictment an submit an extradition request to INTERPOL, and directly with the Netherlands, a country with whom we enjoy an robust extradition treaty.
None of that was done for almost a month after payment had been transferred. That just sloppy and untimely lawyering.
Those Dutch sure do have strange names.
If allowed to do so, why not?
The crime was against Beth, a US Citizen. EXtorting her.
Aruba had recognized that jurisdiction already. They allowed the sting on their soil. It’s on tape he’s guilty of extorting.
If Aruba allowed all of that, an arrest for that would be no different.
All about the Peruvian criminal justice system and Peruvian prisons here:

Doesn’t look good for Joran.
Here’s an excerpt:
“Among the toughest: Lurigancho Prison. Lurigancho Prison in Peru was built for 3600 inmates but now houses nearly 10,000, with only 100 unarmed guards.”
Looks like the inmates run the asylum. I’m sure being a foreigner, he’ll be a marked man.
They were saying on Nancy Grace that in Peru, it is not a Trial by Jury. The accused goes before three Judges, and a Preponderance of Evidence is all it takes! Woooohoo! He’s done.
