EDITORIAL: FTC floats Drudge tax

Journalism can reinvent itself without government 'help'

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking ways to "reinvent" journalism, and that's a cause for concern. According to a May 28 draft proposal, the agency thinks government should be at the center of a media overhaul. The bureaucracy sees it as a problem that the Internet has introduced a wealth of information options to consumers, forcing media companies to adapt and experiment to meet changing market needs. FTC's policy staff fears this new reality.

"There are reasons for concern that experimentation may not produce a robust and sustainable business model for commercial journalism," the report states. With no faith that the market will work things out for the better, government thinks it must come to the rescue.

Liberty will always win.

Other than in the 1700's when did "liberty win"? Liberty is dead everywhere. The U.S. is the last place where SOME of our liberties still exist. Unless we are willing to fight (despite what Beck, Hannity, Levin and Limbaugh say) for them we will lose what we have left.

In other words the FTC is saying that the American people do not have the capacity to disseminate information available from a variety of sources and presented from different points of view.

This tax would suppress freedom of information, a tactic used quite effectively in Iran and China for the explicit purpose of maintaining control of their citizens.

Gee. Restrict the dissemination of news to licensed journalists and
restrict the organizations who can report it. Why hasn't anyone
thought of this before - Trustworthy News. Lucky the constitution
is irrelevant to modern concerns and thus can be “interpreted” to
conform to international standards. Putin is developing a good
model for press freedom. Freedom is way overrated and actually
dangerous.

Actually, they are trying to control the 2010, and then the 2012, elections. They are not going to relinquish power.

Only by the shedding of blood is the remission of sin. - Hebrews [ch 9] / The Tree of Liberty must be watered, from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. - Thomas Jefferson

There *is* an underlying principal.

Why don’t these commie stooges just say they want all journalism to be government controled and get it over with already. It’s what they are talking about.
And I’m sure it will end up as unbiased as the BBC and PBS.

These aren’t liberals/Democrats/socialists, these are communists, and this is yet another key component in their plan to fundamentally change this county.

Americans are caught in the hard-left’s psy-op/subversion funnel. If the government tried this even ten years ago you all would have been beside yourselves with rage at the idea.

Why not now?

Are you tired? Sick of being angry? Feel helpless? Feel like all you can do is wait to be “saved” by election results in November of this year?

Yes, I know...and so do they—it’s an essential part of the program.

Your mind is the prize, folks. The rest is taking candy from a baby.

Hint: The election results, and your shiny new politicians, will have no positive effect on what is being perpetrated on this country. They will not have the ability, or the desire, to repeal 0bamaCare, or undo most of the damage inflicted by the hard-left in recent years. With 0bamaCare in place they all serve a left-wing government, by default. They themselves become the hard-left just by taking the job.

The change will come only when Americans demand it. Until that happens the left will continue to dominate.

That’s the thing that most people don’t get. SOMEONE WILL DOMINATE—it’s us, or them. Domination by a government that stands for individual freedom, or domination by those who work to make you a slave to their “noble” causes.

Dominate, or be dominated—it’s that simple in this universe. Freedom requires serious defense in order for it to dominate. But it also requires an offense. Right now, we have no offense at all to speak of. This is a “game” that we cannot win by defense alone, folks.

They DO have faith that the free market WILL work,problem is America is STILL a RIGHT center nation and the sycophant, tingle oriented, lame-stream media is going the way of the Dinosaurs and they know it. They want to rig the game with taxpayer, read free marketeer`s, money to continue the push for socialism ("spreadin the wealth").

The following link gives some more detail:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has published a “discussion draft” of what it calls Potential Policy Recommendations to Support the Reinvention of Journalism. I didn’t realize that journalism (real journalism, that is) needed to be “reinvented,” but leave it to Obama’s government to propose “solutions” where there are no problems.

— the creation of a “journalism” division of AmeriCorps, the federal program that places 75,000 people with local and national nonprofit groups annually;

— tax credits to news organizations for every journalist employed;

— establishing citizenship news vouchers, which “would allow every American tax payer to allocate some amount of government funds to the non-profit media organization” of their choice;

— increased funding for public radio and television;

— providing grants to universities to conduct investigative journalism;

— increased postal subsidies for newspapers and periodicals;

— a 5 percent tax on consumer electronics, which would generate roughly $4 billion annually, to pay for increased public funding.

What everyone needs to remember and realize is that it was a couple of kids and bloggers that took down the mighty ACORN. The esteemed established “journalists” refused to touch the story until it rolled down the mountain like a landslide. Heck, it was the Drudge Report that broke the story on Clinton...journalists and reporters know what’s going on, but they purposely look the other way - they’re not called “media whores” for nothing.

Yes,, things are always better with central planning./ The free market is not nearly orderly enough to suit the purposes of the state.
