U.S. nonfarm payrolls expanded by a seasonally adjusted 431,000 in May, but virtually all the new jobs were temporary jobs at the U.S. Census, leaving private-sector hiring very weak in May, the Labor Department reported Friday. Excluding 411,000 temporary Census workers, payrolls rose by 20,000 in May.(continued)

But the Vice President said everything was wonderful. What would the unemployment rate if there were no census this year, or if they were really counting everyone?

How stupid does Obama think we are? How many months in a row can he fire/rehire census worker bees and count the jobs? There are approx 300-400 Americans to count per census worker... That’s not full time employment , that’s a 3 day temp job if you milk it real hard and you purposely ring the doorbells only during work hours...

Compared to total US employment, that’s as significant as Obama’s proposed “budget cuts” when they are compared to his total deficit.

In a country of over 300 million people, 20,000 jobs were added. Happy days are here again.

Predicted: 513K; actual 431K (82 less than expected by the “people in the know”)411K of the 431(94%) temporary census workers. Does anyone with an IQ or who isn’t brain dead believe these liars about ANYTHING(Sestak, healthcare costs, deficit, revenues, job growth)any longer? Why would you?

Even they had hit the predicted number they still would be short on jobs creation. We currently need to produce 150,000 jobs per month just to keep up with the expanding number of workers.

I noticed an interesting bit of spin on one network. The anchor stated that among the job numbers weekly hours worked increased from 32.1 to 32.2 hours. She then stated that had employers hired new workers instead of increasing hours that would have produced 350,000 new jobs. Interesting bit of twisting statistics.

Just curious what the actual figures would have been without these fake jobs being taken into account?

Yes but 32.1 or 32.2 hours a week is PART TIME! Why hire more workers if you can not keep your full time workers working full time?

Still overly optimistic. The infamously laughable "birth / death model" claims more than 100,000 this time I think.

part of my point. The administration was trying to spin it as possible jobs.

hmmmm.........I'd say at least until Nov 2010.

after that they're going to transfer to SEIU / ACORN and join the Barraq 2012 campaign.

Yes, if only.

if only we were in cash in August 2008 through March 2009, we would have enjoyed huge gains in stocks and avoided huge losses.

The jobs report made for a tough Friday for CNBC cheerleaders Kudlow, Zandi, Wesbury and Liesman.

Tea Party movement founder Santelli was looking good on CNBC today. The weak employment report is what conservatives such as he and we have warned since President Obama took office.

Santelli also noted other quirks in how the data is compiled, having to do with the birth-death employer models, render the report even weaker than at the first glance.

It was priceless to see Obama cheerleader Liesman looking furious with Santelli.
