New video: Flotilla passengers attack Israeli troops (Unprovoked? No way)

Via the IDF’s blog. Ed already posted video taken from above the ship as Israeli troops rappeled down but this one’s shot from alongside so there’s more detail. Have a look as the Forces of Peace shift into full-on mob mode, dragging the soldiers to the ground before they’re even on the deck and swinging for the fences with huge metal poles. Some of the IDF personnel involved later described it as a “lynching,” which sounded dubious to me at first but not anymore. That’s what it looks like. “They beat us with metal sticks and knives,” he said. “There was live fire at some point against us.”… One of the commandos said some of the soldiers were stripped of their helmets and equipment and a several were tossed from the top deck to a lower deck, forcing them to jump into the sea to escape. “They jumped me, hit me with clubs and bottles and stole my rifle,” one of the commandos said. “I pulled out my pistol and had no choice but to shoot.”

I see attempted murder in these videos, surely enough to condemn anyone on board and justify Israel actions.

I hope the stabber was one of those that were taken out.

Clearly, the IDF was attacked on the boat and had to defend themselves.

But I admit I do have an issue with this all taking place in international waters. Israel is facing a PR nightmare and they can't use maritime law as a cover since they violated it.

They should have waited until the ships were in the 10 mile radius. I support Israel, but this operation was not well thought out.

I’ve heard that Turkey is going to send its navy in support of the next humanitarian flotilla.....this could get very interesting....Israel doesn’t need to mess with the Turks.

If they had thrown roses onto the deck of the muzzie ship, they would be blasted by the “world community”.

The Turkish military won’t get involved. The Turks don’t like Arabs and the Arabs don’t really like the “Palis.” This is just a political move to establish a sphere of influence in the Middle East.

I don’t know Israeli maritime law but in the Convention on Maritime Neutrality (which the US signed):

FREEDOM OF COMMERCE IN TIME OF WAR

Article 1. The following rules shall govern commerce of war:

(1) Warships of the belligerents have the right to stop and visit on the high seas and in territorial waters that are not neutral any merchant ship with the object of ascertaining its character and nationality and of verifying whether it conveys cargo prohibited by international law or has committed any violation of blockade. If the merchant ship does not heed the signal to stop, it may be pursued by the warship and stopped by force; outside of such a case the ship cannot be attacked unless, after being hailed, it fails to observe the instructions given it.
