The news that some conservative critics were exacting their pound of flesh from a Democratic president for not laying a wreath this year at Arlington National Cemetery certainly was a reach, especially after the White House revealed that Vice President Joe Biden was going to Arlington -- and that the commander-in-chief would pay his respects at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.

Ok...ok...I hear you and I understand your sentiment. And believe me, there is NO ONE here or in our nation that understands more than me what you are saying about every single lost life in service to our nation is equally important. ABSOLUTELY!

It is the symbolic nature of the leader of our nation, both here at home and around the world, honoring the tomb of the unknown soldier at Arlington that represents ALL SOLDIERS (as it would were he to visit your neck of the woods, of course) as a TRADITION that comforts and reassures us and lets the world know that our soldiers and sailors are beloved, honored and forever in our hearts.

As for me and mine, we are HAPPY that he skipped Arlington.

I would hope that he would never show his face there, but I know that won’t occur.
