In his fiercest defense yet of the mosque proposed near Ground Zero, Mayor Bloomberg declared yesterday that it must be allowed to proceed because the government "shouldn't be in the business of picking" one religion over another.
"I think it's fair to say if somebody was going to try, on that piece of property, to build a church or a synagogue, nobody would be yelling and screaming," the mayor said.
"And the fact of the matter is that Muslims have a right to do it, too."

You’ve gotta be shitting me.
Maybe the muslims will invite the jewish Bloomie to give the opening speech there in the new mosque, as a new synagogue or Christian church would have done.
But not a transfat or salt zone.
Disgusting.
The day the Saudis allow a Christian church, or a Jewish synagogue to be built in Riyadh, I’ll support a mosque at ground zero.
Someone is making the assumption it is a religion of faith, not a religion of hate.
The Koran mandates violence against non believers, therefore it is hate literature. The “politically correct” need to do more homework and amend their views accordingly.
Concerned New Yorkers need to start tossing pig blood and fat at that site.
If you think NYC is filled with flag waving patriots, you are smoking some of eastern Kentucky's finest.
Interesting issue. I am against the mosque being built but I don't want government picking which churches can be built and which cannot and where they can and cannot build. That is why our founding fathers were so strong on freedom of religion. They saw what happened in England.
Assh*le = Bloomberg
Hey Mike, how about the opening date scheduled for 9/11/11?
“”to build a church or a synagogue””
AND what Christian church or Synagogue supports flying planes full of passengers and crew members into buildings full of workers?
vaudine
Ok Bloomberg, let’s keep it real simple - no churches, mosques, synogogues, or any other new religious institution can be built near ground zero. They can all get over it.
Obama is to Kenya as Bloomberg is to Medford Massachusetts.
Neither one is a natural born citizen of what they
purport to represent.
Not that I’m overly religious,But where is our freedom to celebrate our faith? It’s being kicked out of the Public Sphere everywhere in the United States.
If they tried to build a church or synagogue on that site, you dare tootling that the ACLU would be screaming bloody murder. IAC, Bloomberger is already giving Islam a priviliged place.
My illustrious Masshole Mayor had Bermuda as his primary residence before he decided to run for office. He would have done us all a favor by running for Mayor of Hamilton instead.
