West Memphis police officer Bill Evans was found lying face down in a ditch after being shot multiple times by a 16-year-old, including a shot in the back, the city's police chief said Tuesday.
The chief said his son, a sergeant over the criminal interdiction unit, took cover Thursday behind his vehicle as teenager Joseph Kane opened fire with an AK-47. He said bullets pierced the engine and the car and shattered glass. Brandon was riddled with bullets before being shot in the back of the head, Paudert said.

Paudert told them that as of Tuesday, he wanted officers carrying shotguns on traffic stops. He wanted one officer to approach while a second officer stood back with a shotgun ready to fire if the situation turns dangerous.

My thoughts as well, nothing wrong with an M1 carbine for police carry.
30 Carbine = 110gr @ 1300+ fps
357 Mag = 125 gr @ 1600fps.
Yeah, the main thing with a rifle is that the bad guy can engage from farther away.

Apparently you can’t read either. The two guys in the Wal-Mart parking lot jumped out and started shooting at two sheriff’s officers without warning. One sheriff wasn’t even armed. One sheriff was hit in the shoulder and the other took three rounds to the stomach. As I said, let’s suppose they weren’t the same two guys as in the first incident. They still deserved to die for jumping the two sheriffs. Moron.
and then 2 hours (90 minutes to even send out a descrpition after the first shooting) later two people in a white van were killed elsewhere, supposedly the original shooters.

By turning the facts on their head? That’s not being a devil’s advocate. That’s being a liar. A devil’s advocate uses the facts but puts them in a different light.
And I think the M1 would make a fine police carbine.
Add a red dot sight and you would have better control that a shotgun, with frangible ammo, less likely to kill a bystander.
One could do a hell of a lot worse.
