With a closed head injury, a broken blood vessel spews blood into the brain. In most other parts of the body, it manifests as a bruise and doesn't create any significant problems unless a clot develops in a vein or artery. Inside the head, the skull will not let the body swell to accommodate the blood, so the blood compresses the brain. This also can lead to the brain trying to swell, and again, the skull compresses it.

There are several techniques to alleviate the pressure, the most common being drilling a hole in the skull to let the blood leak out. Another method is to crack the skull, allowing it to separate slightly to accommodate brain swelling. They can also induce a coma through drugs, and sometimes this will slow brain swelling. All of these procedures are risky. ****Please note, I have only been trained to EMT level. I am NOT a doctor.

He did an interview one time and talked about being ten years old, on dialysis, and having about fifty adults with their jobs depending upon him being able to pull himself onto the set and act like he felt great.

RIP Gary.

Diff'rent Strokes Theme

This show portrayed the kids as having unbridled and incredible futures ahead of them. The reality was sadly different.

It’s really sad, Todd Bridges had a birthday yesterday. Dana died in May of 1999.

And Dana’s son just committed suicide. Hard to believe that Conrad Bain and Charlotte Rae would outlive nearly all the kids.

That’s true. Bain’s still kicking.

Wierd that Dana Plato’s soon would die the same month as Coleman. I’ve read that children of suicides are much more likely to do it themselves.
