At long last President Barack Obama held a full-dress news conference - his first in 10 months - and finally answered questions about the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
It was his mission to reassure residents of the Gulf region particularly that “from the moment this disaster began, the federal government has been in charge of the response effort . . . that BP is operating at our direction.”

When I was watching Obama’s eagerly anticipated Press Conference, all I could think of were the words of President Bush after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans,

Now that he’s taken responsibility for it, there is no way he’ll be blamed for it. The heat is off. If this would have happened on Bush’s watch, and he took responsibility for it, he would have faced a firing squad. Whatever. More than half of the people in this country voted for Obama. We’re so far gone I’m not sure we can ever recover any sense of dignity or reason. Seems to me that every day Obama does something more absurd than the day before and people just keep supporting him. This guy could get away with anything (even on video).
