Obama on Sestak Job Scandal: 'Nothing Improper Took Place'; W.H. Report Coming 'Soon'
Thursday, may 27, 2010 | Kristinn

Barack Obama assured the American people that "nothing improper took place" with regard to claims by Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA.) that the Obama administration offered him a government job if he would drop out of the Pennsylvania primary race with Sen. Arlen Specter.

Obama also said a White House report about the allegations would be coming "soon".

"Not months or weeks," he said.

Democrats and Republicans have raised questions about what could be a serious violation of federal law, or even an impeachable offense, if Sestak was indeed offered a bribe of a federal job.

Obama made his comments in response to a question by Fox News' Major Garrett at today's press conference.

Obama declined to get into specifics, deferring to the "soon" to be released White House report.

But why would Sestak reiterate the charge last Sunday? He wouldn’t be playing a game with stakes this high unless he thought he held a pretty good hand.

Exactly. And, if the Obama Administration needs to throw anyone under the bus to plug this hole, the designated sacrifice won't rise anywhere near even middle-management level of Obama's circle

Mm hm. The story will be that some overeager staffer asked Sestak if he would drop out of the race for a job in the Administration. The staffer will publicly acknowledge that he/she acted without anyone's authority and is sorry that Sestak was under the false impression that the staffer had been sent by the White House. That way, Sestak is not a liar and the staffer will wind up working for George Soros somehow.

Depends. If Sestak was offered (as is rumored) Sec Navy, then it goes all the way to the top. Sec Navy is one of the Joint Chiefs and thus directly under Dumb0’s command. And by directly I mean like sitting right across the table from him.

No way any credible offer like that could have escaped the notice of the CinC.

“Obama also said a White House report about the allegations would be coming “soon”.”

I can't wait to see this marvel of legalistic fiction & Humpty-Dumpty explanations.

He's stuck. He wouldn't say what the offer was or who specifically made it.

He can't simply said "I lied about it!" but he's not going to willingly supply any new information.

He may have a good hand, but it's not a card game he wants to be in anymore. He doesn't want to play against the Democrats now that he's one of them.

"nothing improper took place"

“I didn't do it and you can't prove I did.” Baart Obama (Ba' art Obama)

I knew Obama reminded me of someone now I know who.

Maybe, but then he could have just come out and said “I misinterpreted what I thought was an offer but which really wasn’t.”

Instead, he doubled down.

People, our all knowing and all seeing dear leader has spoken: nothing to see, for we must move along to further the revolution. Okay, what parallel dimension are we in?

“I misinterpreted what I thought was an offer but which really wasn’t.”

Legally, that would work but politically it's a disaster for him.

He's trying to not look like a lying weasel, but eventually that's going to be the course he has to turn to. He will not throw Obama under the bus, if only because he'll be persona non grata within in his own party and will have no hope of getting elected without their support.

Legally, nothing will come out of this whole episode, but it's a great political hammer against Sestak, Obama and the Dem Party in general.

Maybe the Administration’s goal is to make Sestak be perceived as unstable and untrustworthy, forcing them to ask him to step aside for the good of the party, and turn to Arlen in his place to save the seat. Maybe the whole thing was a set-up just in case Arlen lost?

Yep!

Also, keep in mind that if the GOP wins back the majority in Nov, it will also win back subpoena power...and Sestak and the WH will be in the hot seat.

IMO, the WH is sweatin' blood over this one!

Let me guess, the White House report on the Sestak allegations will say “nothing improper took place.’

TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 1 > § 4

§ 4. Misprision of felony
How Current is This?

” forcing them to ask him to step aside for the good of the party, and turn to Arlen in his place to save the seat.”

Well for the good of the party maybe they could just offer him an administration job to step aside...

Oh, wait...

Time for Rahm to pay Sestak a little visit in the Congressional showers. Don’t bend over for the soap Joe!
