As the national debt clock ticked past the ignominious $13 trillion mark overnight, Congress pressed to pass a host of supplemental spending bills to, among other things, fund the continuing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, ramp up security on the U.S.-Mexico border and prevent teacher layoffs.
Taken together, the Democratic-led U.S. Congress is trying to find a way to pass about $300 billion more in unfunded spending before Memorial Day -- a spending spree that rivals anything drunken sailors have been accused of.
The underlying war funding measure that congressional leaders hope to pass by the end of the week would bring the amount provided by Congress for the Iraq and Afghanistan war efforts to $1 trillion.
But lawmakers in both parties are using President Obama's war funding request to advance unrelated pet initiatives like a $500 million administration request for border security and an Education Department request for a $23 billion teacher bailout.
In the House, Obama's original $63 billion request for war funding, disaster relief and aid to nations like earthquake-ravaged Haiti and war-torn Afghanistan has swelled to $84 billion under a draft measure being readied for a key panel vote on Thursday.

I believe the debt ceiling was $11.8 TRILION when obama took office, and the increase to $14 TRILLION was supposed to carry the dems past the election.
At this rate, they won’t make it.
The American people should tell anyone, or country, that loans our Congress money, from now on, we won’t pay it back.
HOW DO WE STOP THEM????? nothing seems to phase them.

I’m beyond angry about the actions of this Congress. Throwing them out of office in November is not enough to satisfy me. Such a travesty of justice can never be allowed to happen again. There must be consequences for their actions.
If we cannot investigate and prosecute them. Then they must lose the profits they’ve pilfered through their corrupt actions. They must lose all future benefits paid for by our tax dollars. No retirement pensions. No healthcare insurance. No Medicare. No Social Security. Nothing.
They must be cut off. In fact, perhaps they need to pay reparations to those of us they’ve taxed well into the future.
I agree, Buckeye, these actions over the years have surpassed criminal in my book.
The Rat party is like a crazed horse running wild with the bit in his teeth. Sometimes it takes a bullet in the head to stop him.
See #7. I say we revoke any and all benefits after we throw them out of office. They should suffer the consequences of abusing the consent of the governed.
Congress: “But how can America be broke? We still have checks in the checkbook!?”
In the Name of Christ, Congress, STOP THIS! God, in Christ’s Name, Amen.
So what is the most likely reason for all the spending:
1) Cloward Piven strategy to collapse the US economy?
2) US plans to default on its debt so why not fill the credit card to the max and get these programs for free?
3) US plans to inflate out of its debt so why not fill the credit car to the max and get today’s low prices?
4) ?
