The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson told a New York crowd today of her 'pride' in her life as she fights to save her reputation over the 'cash-for-access' scandal.
Sarah Ferguson brushed off her personal crisis as she spoke as she hosted a breakfast for booksellers and librarians at the Book Expo America event in Manhattan.
'I think it is a real treat for me to be here today and I can't thank you enough for listening,' the tired-looking duchess told the supportive crowd.
The former wife of Prince Andrew was exposed at the weekend after being filmed accepting a £500,000 bribe in return for access to her ex-husband.

sad old bar fly still seeking headlines.
What reputation?
If she doesn’t have any dough, how’d she get to NYC?
I pity this woman.
The comments are supportive of her leaving and not in a good way.
Most people suspected she was a cow when she married Andrew....now we are sure of it....
For a carton of smokes she’ll wash and wax your car.
Hope she doesn’t settle here. We need her like a hole in the head.
If she thinks to make it in America, she is quite wrong. She should have gotten job skills and made an honest living.
Either that or before the RF arranges a vacation for her in France where she has to drive through a tunnel...
Makes me sick that her daughters have to face this as well, their own mother doing this.
Being an American, I don’t get it. According to the article, the people of Britian frowned upon her working as a spokesperson for Weight watchers after she divorced because they thought it was beneath a royal to work. But it appears she has to prance around like a royal. Exactly what is she supposed to do to make money?
The whole controversy seems overdone. I don’t really see the problem in taking a commission for an introduction. An introduction only gets you in the front door, they would still have to make their case to get the contracts.
Fergie was totally screwed by the royal family in the divorce. Her alimony was based on Andrew’s navy Lieutenant’s pay, not his share of one of the world’s largest family fortunes. They made her a Duchess but without the wherewithal. This seems a reasonable enough substitute compensation plan.
If she is moving here, does she have papers?
Of all the royals I thought the most of Sarah. She proved me to be very , very wrong. Just another royal hoo-er.
She made twice as much as Diana did through Weight Watchers. Diana was banned from commercial activities and left with a lump sum of seventeen million, Fergie made twice as much as that. She’s made thousands more through books, endorsements, and other misc.
She’s blown it all and has kept messing up her life. She could have gotten a job, plus she’s been living rent free with her ex-husband. With a solid salary, she could have kept the fifteen thousand a year as pocket money and she even admitted to living off of her daughter’s income from their trust funds left to them by the Queen Mother.
Even as a royal Duchess she marketed herself to make money.
My guess: she quits the UK and abdicates her title in exchange for $ from the Queen. A modern day remittance man. Once she's here someone somewhere in the US will pay her to show up and do something just for the publicity.
“in your country, people like John Murtha are filmed doing exatly the same thing, and you name ships and Naval facilities after them”...
man thats gonna leave a mark
>>> Even as a royal Duchess she marketed herself to make money.
She is still a royal Duchess. So your objection is she didn’t sit down and give up? A portion of a navy Lieutenant’s pay as alimony won’t support someone of her station. Taking initiative to make a living is usually not something Americans find objectionable.
There are professional middlemen who make handsome livings by way of introducing businessmen in search of deals. Again I don’t see the frantic that she would try her hand at it too.
