HARTFORD, Conn. Criticized for saying he "regrets" misstatements he made about his military service during the Vietnam War, Connecticut Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal is now apologizing.
On Monday and late the night before, the Democrat told various media outlets that he made mistakes and is sorry for them.
"I think he wants to put this behind him. He wants to start getting back to talking about the issues that matter most to the people of Connecticut and start talking about who is going to best represent the people of Connecticut in Washington," said Maura Downes, a campaign spokeswoman.
The state's commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., Richard G. DiFederico, had issued a statement Friday demanding an apology from Blumenthal.

He wants to put this behind him and talk about the issues? Whether a candidate can be trusted, whether he is honest and a man of integrity is probably issue number one. If he can’t be trusted, then whatever he says doesn’t really matter.
Maybe he just got Viet Nam confused with the base in Germany where he was stationed. The Black Forest can be mighty confusing when you’re out there looking for Octoberfest.
Not good enough. He must apologize at least 5 more times and then drop out of the race. That’s what Republicans do.
“Didn’t you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?” Main Entry: men·dac·i·ty Pronunciation: \men-Ëda-sÉ-tÄ\ Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural men·dac·i·ties Date: 1646 1 : the quality or state of being mendacious 2 : lie You’d think a lawyer of Blumenthal’s experience and stature could handle a four syllable word for “lie” and not take refuge in the three syllable “misstatement”.
His unmitigated arrogance and palpable narcissism are offensive and so is his pathetic attempt to brush this off as something unimportant. Blumenthal's deliberate lying about serving in Viet Nam is not 'unimportant'. It demonstrates his lack of character and integrity. The man is a fraud and his very belated 'apology' is transparently political. An attempt to 'manage' his getting caught in lies that amount to 'stolen valor'.
Blumenthal should quit the race but with corrupt Senator Christopher Dodd and the brain-dead Connecticut Democrat party endorsing him in a state with a lopsided Democrat voter registration advantage, Dick Blumenthal will not only refuse to quit his race for the senate but likely win it...unless Connecticut voters find the courage to reject this liar. I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.
Lies. His statement was fully intended. They were not simply erroneous verbiage.
They were deliberately intended to deceive. Sorry MSM, but that’s a lie.
At the rate we’re going, he will make a great president some day.
The sad part is by November most people in this state will just vote him in saying “At least he isn’t Dodd.” Guess what he’s Dodd on steroids!!
Apology not accepted. Blumenthal get the blank out of my country. This SOB should be forced to resign as the AG and be stripped of ever being in political office. Opps i forgot he is a democrap so committing a crime, failing to pay taxes and so forth and so on does not matter. PODS - Piece of Donkey Shit
This in my book is not redeemable. Goes right to the character of the man who stole the valor.
If he will lie about this, he will lie about anything.
Yeah : I think LMAO.
agreed. my cousin was killed in ‘nam.
Let him show his sincerity by withdrawing from the race. Otherwise, how do we know he isn’t trying to dupe us with another lie?
I get tired of the misuse of the word "mistake". Does someone make a "mistake" when he robs a bank or embezzles or lies under oath or cheats on his spouse or....? It's a mistake only if he did any of these things unintentionally.
He’s a vicious Attorney General. Lady who sold computers to the state was slapped with criminal charges and had her assests frozen by Blumenthal. Her accounts frozen, she could not defend herself for what should have been a minor spat over the terms of a contract. She just won millions from the state over what Blumenthal did to her and her family.
How many more out there are there? A person who lies in public forums about serving in Nam to enhance their resume could certainly be capable of lying to a court.
Translation: “I am sorry that I was caught lying.”
His continued blabbering to the MSM does nothing to overcome his insult to the honor of those men (and women).
He lied. His apology didn’t sound like one to me. He is just another dem POS.
