San Diego, California (CNN) — When five students at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California, taunted Latino students by wearing T-shirts bearing the American flag on Cinco de Mayo, even though administrators had told students beforehand not to wear flag clothing that day, they caused a ruckus, divided a community and reignited the culture wars.

Thank you! I’d removed my American flag from front porch due to high winds here yesterday. Must go out and put it back now!!!!! Rain and wind are the only reasons I take it down, ever.

I think it was all a vast conspiracy with Mexican food joints, myself.
Probably started out with just a Margarita special on that particular day, maybe half-priced chimichangas or something.
Now, years later, with good marketing by the chain owners, they've turned it into a week long fiesta with big sales receipts.
And just like clockwork, liberals/communists co-opt the movement and by 2020, it'll be a National Holiday with a paid day off for all government and union workers.

It’s so crazy that you just don’t know where to start. What particularly strikes me at the moment is the utter immaturity, the toddler-level “reasoning” and behavior of almost all parties: the school administration, the Mexican students, the commentators ...
I’ll describe the flag-wearing students as “making a symbolic political statement,” rather than “taunting.” Everyone else had the choice of ignoring the statement or engaging in reasonable dicussion, but nobody made that choice.
I just read “The Underground History of American Education” again, so I’m not surprised by this situation, nor do I think it’s unavoidable. The school system encourages this kind of confrontation to keep the plebes from noticing what’s going on.
To know that its gotten to this point underscores the dismal performance of the school to lead these students into a higher morality. These pencil pushing administrators have lost sight to show the nobility of an education worthy of its students.
They have in fact dropped down to that of gang mentality, and if they don't recover from this farce, I am afraid its going to get much worse.
I think of Sir Thomas Moore, who when pleaded to join the nobles in fellowship and compromise on the marriage of King Henry the VIII, and his conscience said:
If you get to Heaven by following your conscience, and I to Hell for abandoning mine, will you join me in fellowship in hell?
