Republican U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore made sure that the June 8 ballot described him as "Assemblyman/Military Reservist" because, the Irvine lawmaker said, he didn't want to be mistaken for just another politician.
Throughout the campaign, DeVore has emphasized his service as a military officer and a young Reagan White House appointee at the Pentagon as experiences that helped make him the most qualified candidate. But at times he appears to have overstated those accomplishments, particularly his experience under fire and his role in the development of a U.S.-Israeli anti-ballistic-missile defense program. He also has faced criticism for acting on behalf of a group with ties to political contributors. ...
He spoke during the debate of being "shot at in Lebanon" but did not make clear that the shooting occurred in the 1980s while DeVore was a college student studying Arabic and other subjects in the Middle East. Nor did he note that while the shooting was in his vicinity, there was no indication he was a target or was in actual danger.

After the recent controversy with the Connecticut candidate discovered making false or embellished claims of his military service record, it turns out that California Assemblyman Chuck Devore may have a similar problem.
The probelm Devore has is that former ABC News correspondent (currently a research fellow at hte distinguished Hoover Institution) Bob Zelnick was also in the Lebanon Syria border area and has a different take of the facts. "Nothing I saw or experienced could reasonably be interpreted as our having been driven off the hill by Syrian fire," he said. Other military claims by Devore such as being involved in the Gulf War is tempered by the fact while he may want us to believe he was in the Middle East, it turns out that Devore was perhaps in Middle East California for all the Gulf Wars. So it seems that Devore is perhaps a cross between Dan Quayle and Hillary Clinton (Bosnian sniper victim).
Where do we find these losers?
Any quotes?
DeVore said he was “shot at” only once in his military career; during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. His National Guard unit was deployed near Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza and, while the troops were on patrol, a gunshot blew out the window of a car about 20 feet away.
What about Hillary coming under fire in Bosnia or Kosovo or wherever?
much ado over nothing.. geeesh.. source..LA Times.
at least he strapped a weapon on for his country..
I'll give you one from me, "It would appear Sarah Palin's political instincts are on target."
What did SP know and when did she know it??? :)
Sorry, I don’t agree. Politicians who pump up their thin military experience into something that is never was will lie about much more important things and they cannot be trusted.
24 years wearing the uniform. thin?
He was in the Reserve Components, not on active duty. It appears that he spent most of his time trying to advance his political prospects. As a 25 year old political appointee at the Pentagon in Legislative affairs, he was a gofer - not a policy maker as he claims to be. I’m sure that many who have not served will be impressed. I’m not, but then I don’t get to vote for the guy, so it doesn’t count.
I guess it is all over. Looks like either Boxer or the RINO’s win. sarc
well, aren’t you the lucky one? you just get to jab the guy a bit.. and not have to even vote for a rino instead. :-]
Lucky not to live in California, that’s for sure. He’s the guy who decided to jump into the political arena and exaggerate his military feats of derring do. He deserves whatever he gets.
Totally agree, however lying about one's "military experience" is a serious issue and a mea culpa does not save the day. People who make such claims are true bottom feeders living upon the good deeds of others. What could be more important?
Is this like how Hillary Clinton was shot at on the tarmac in Bosnia?

Good enough for DeMint.. oh well.
This is a very ugly attempt to smear DeVore. He never has said he was anything but a reservist. He has been deployed and he admitted he’d been shot at in Lebannon as a college student. This article is clearly crafted to suggest DeVore claimed something about his military service that he never has. It reminds me of the attacks on Fred Thompson. If we are going to accept this kind of crap hit piece let’s see one on Fiorina and deals with Iran or Campbell and his pushing for funding for UN population control. Chuck DeVore is a principled conservative and this is a really shameful attack with roots in the Fiorina campaign.
The problem you have is your head is your head is up your ass.
