A shocked dad yesterday said he had no idea his Cambridge daughter had married Aftab Ali Khan, one of the Pakistani men detained last week in connection with the Times Square bombing probe.
“I never knew she was married to someone named that,” said Raymond Sylla of Buffalo, N.Y. “Wow.”
On Nov. 17, 2009, Khan married U.S. citizen Lila-Charlotte Fatou Sylla, 29, in a ceremony performed by a justice of the peace at Cambridge City Hall, according to a marriage certificate.
But Raymond Sylla said as far as he knew, his daughter wasn’t married to anyone. He said she lives in Cambridge, practices midwifery, teaches African drum and dance and has three children fathered by a different man.
“He was telling me they were going to be married,” said Raymond Sylla, referring to the father of his grandchildren
Sylla added he had not been in recent contact with his daughter.
“I don’t hear from her and my birthday just passed,” he said.
Lila-Charlotte Fatou Sylla could not be reached for comment. She is not facing any charges.
Khan, 27, his uncle Pir D. Khan, 43, and a third man, Mohammad Shafiq Rahman of Maine, were detained May 13 on immigration charges. They have not been charged criminally. The Khans have no ties to alleged Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad, said their attorney, Saher Macarius.
“(Aftab Ali Khan) told that to the FBI and nobody can dispute that,” said Macarius. “He’s very upset. He’s never been in jail. He thought it was completely wrong accusations. That’s not what he expected from the United States government.”
The uncle and nephew had both planned to fly home to Pakistan by way of Dubai on June 6.

Sounds to me like she married for cash...to help give the guy a reason to stay in the US. It would be curious to note her bank account before and after the marriage.
So what DOES this guy expect from his daughter, who lives in liberal Cambridge Ma, practices midwifery, has three kids by different fathers and teaches African Drum and dance classes?

If she just married the guy to keep him in the US the father just may have “outed” his daughter as a criminal.
I knew somebody like this ditz. There are a ton of nice American girls panting to marry and even be one of several wives of some ME or African Muslim idiot. They actually usually end up as the major bread-winners, as was the woman I knew.
This is because, in addition to being bone-idle and never wanting to bestir themselves (while feeling that their wives should support them, bring up the kids, and give them money to go back to the ME on a regular basis) most Muslims are dumb.
They grow up in a non-competitive, intellectually hostile culture, and when they get here, they think the way you get good grades is to buy them from a smarter person in the class. And when that doesn’t work, they marry an American idiot.
Any American girl/woman that marries a Muslim has some real issues (self-worth, rebellion, mentally deficient, etc.)

I heard stories and knew girls who specifically married guys from Venezuela, Lebanan etc who knew that it was a scam. In those days, just being married a year was enough to get the guy a green card.
However, new rules necessitate you cannot be a citizen if you divorce before 5 years, IIRC.
Of course, says nothing about residing together...hence a loophole wide enough to drive an SUV through.

A billion years ago, I worked with a girl my age at the time who married a Greek for $500 (a month’s wages in the 1970s). We all joked about it, but who knew it would become the cottage industry that it is. In any case, she saw him once (for the “wedding”), the check changed hands, she never saw him again, and at the appropriate time, the divorce went through.
Still, the woman I knew in the 90s didn’t marry this Muslim loser for the money. She had spent some time studying in Germany, where she specialized in dating people from the ME because she thought it would annoy her parents, who were solid Mid-Westerners.
She then decided that the thing to do was marry one of them. He was always back in wherever (I think he was actually a “Palestinian”) and she was in Jersey City working and bringing up their child. He came back and gambled her money away every so often and then went away. And his mother hated her.
These girls are so dumb.
Nice-lookin’ girl! In almost all cases, I’d declare her “Not Guilty!” But in this case? GUILTY!
Dozens of Middle Eastern men were found buying grades in the community colleges in Tulsa when we lived there. They were all romancing (and in many cases screwing) the affirmative action, I mean, Equal Employment Opportunity, records clerks.
In the case in the article, the “midwife/drum teacher” is probably on welfare, with who knows how many guys living off her, concurrently or seriatim.

Fathers are just about the most important thing in a daughters life. Even more than mothers.
She’s probably a professional bride. They found some women in NYC a few years ago who were literally making their living off marriage/divorce/remarriage/divorce, etc.
The price has gone up a lot from $500!
I wonder what same sex marriage will do to the pricing.
