Stocks fell sharply Thursday after an unexpected spike in jobless claims and as global jitters pushed the dollar higher.
-snip-
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly 300 points, or almost 3 percent, and the CBOE volatility index, widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, spiked more than 20 percent to above 43, its highest level in over a year.

Where can I convert my IRA into 4 halves from two...?
or is this new maths...?
My post tax bonus dollars are going into a 40 acre plot of agri land out in the sticks along with ammo and food. From there we will be building a concrete dome home that will be earth sheltered and putting in well, septic, and off grid power. The idea is that I will one the land, house, everything free and clear and through small farm, able to sustain my family for very low $$ per month. Once that place is “up”, I’m selling off this suburban house and moving out.
The fact remains ... right now, all kinds of investments suck. So I dont consider being in all bonds to be that bad of an investment at the moment. Esp since it is inflation protected.
One wonders how bad it will be by election day.
Hmmmm if IRC... AFTER the November elections, the temporary 2010 Census workers will no longer be needed and the recepients of the 99 weeks of unemployment benefits will have their 'pay' expire. Should be an interesting and enormous 'spike' in the Jobless Jobs Claims. But the attention deficient electorate will have reelected their incumbents...oh well
Hold on...we're in for a very bumpy ride.
Not to worry, the propoganda media will be in full stride to say the economy is booming again come November.
Whether it is or not.
Any advice for military personnel living in Italy when it comes to buying euros or British pounds for dollars? I just looked and the euro was at .798, and the pound at .694, I believe.
Wow! Sirening on Drudge..Dow now at-376.
Eventful day.
The DOTUS got elected though and it makes one wonder where these Obama supporters work to be so supportive of such an economy devastator as he.
I see they haven't learned anything in 30 years.
“undeveloped land, $500 to $3,500 an acre,”
Yeah I can go for that deal. People will always need land.
Where and how can you get land at those prices?
Western states, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming etc.
Wow, I wish i was able to accomplish 1/2 of your preparations. If you are looking for extra farmhands or security let me know :-) I have my own emergency food stores and water stores but no land free and clear. You should look into Allodial titles in your state where you own the land so property taxes won’t be a problem.

Well, you are pretty much a slave of the exchange rate. But with the Euro falling, you should be better off getting Euros with US$. I love Italy btw! Enjoy it while you can because they are soon to go the way of Greece.
