Obama: Beheading of Daniel Pearl ‘captured the world’s imagination’ [video]
daily caller ^ | May 18, 2010 | staff

President Obama today signed into law The Daniel Pearl Freedom of Press Act, which expands efforts to identify countries that don’t share our love for the First Amendment. He also took time to honor the man the bill is named after, journalist Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and beheaded by Islamic extremists in 2002 in what the President — with nary a teleprompter in sight — called a moment that ‘captured the world’s imagination.’ The Obama administration has pushed to have Pearl’s professed killer, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, tried in civilian court.

You have to ask?

[smile] Only to avoid 'reading your mind' and raise hackles among admins. From your tone, I was pretty sure of the reply.

No one, given the subject matter at hand (a horrific murder), would use such a verbal description ("captured the world's imagination") without forethought.

And so, having considered the matter, and with all due forethought, I must conclude that we are presently being led by a sociopath.

Unless he has some undisclosed sympathy to the murderer’s religion...

She was there with their 8 yr old son-

maybe she, like obama, can appreciate how the world became a dreamier better more imganative place because her husband was butchered on live camera

Would never happen:

The Arizona Immigration Law captured the world’s imagination.

The Tea Party Movement captured the world’s imagination.

Well, I did google the definition of the phrase and several used it as “to attract and hold the attention of”. I suppose if taken in that context, it could be used, but the usual connotation is to “inspire the imagination — to cause to dream of high adventure or great accomplishment” or in the case of an athletic or dramatic performance, it holds the audience's attention in a positive way.

Most everybody on the thread is right — the tape left NOTHING to the imagination and all I felt is horror and sadness for a beautiful young woman and his parents. Such a handsome young man — such sadistic criminals. Obama’s turn of phrase just wouldn't have occurred to me.

Obummer thinks its real cool. Maybe he is some kind of zoned out pot head.

Butthead: "Hey Beavis look at the Jew getting his head cut off."

Beavis: "Cool."

I guess that explains it. Networking doesn’t mean as much in my line of business as it does in others. You can’t fake your way through engineering design as well as you can in other fields — especially politics, law, etc.

Obama suggests that Pearl's murder was because he was a journalist. No, it was because he was a Jew.

Pearl's wife should have slapped the fur off his head.

If he were referring to my husband in those terms, I would have slapped him on live camera. POTUS or not...he’s only a man. And a low one at that.

Yep, probably. It takes an interesting mindset to refer to the Pearl incident as something which captures the imagination. It certainly captures the attention, and he might have meant to say that, but he didn’t. And his didn’t isn’t telling of his psyche, methinks.

0bagger just misspoke, like Blumenthal serving “in” Vietnam. Both are lawyers that hang people for their “misspoken words.”

Not to be, they get a communist pass!

The arrogant bag of wind has no clue.

It is no wonder that he continues to live his fabricated and “imagined” youth as written in his book............. Wet-dreams of My Father.

Just IMPEACH this traitor.... before our country is dead.

Captured the imagination?????

To whom is he speaking? Knife-wielding terrorists??

Our President is [bleeping] SICK. It would be less offensive if he said the F-word during a speech to a Brownie Scout troop.

Captured the worlds imagination?

“Shaking my head again. Imagination? It made me sick to my stomach. How sick & twisted 0 is.”

That’s what I thought, too.

The proper phrase would be: Beheading of Daniel Pearl SICKENED the civilized world.

obama is a dangerous “man”.

the President — with nary a teleprompter in sight — called a moment that ‘captured the world’s imagination.’

Yea. when savages sawed off his head with a dull knife, it was just like a trip to Disney World and my first kiss combined. Truly enchanting.
