Irans recently-concluded war games concentrated on preparations to block the Persian Gulf and wreck Western economies in the event that the United Nations Security Council tries to place harsh sanctions against it.
Forty percent of the worlds oil and gas sails through the Persian Gulf, and an Iranian blockade would cause an inflationary spike in energy prices and a fuel shortage that could cause catastrophe for the West, which is dependent on Iranian crude to fuel their gas-hungry economies.
Public affairs consultant Lenny Ben-David, a former senior Israeli diplomat in Israels embassy in Washington, pointed out on Cutting Edge.com Monday that the Islamic Republic stopped, searched or photographed several Western ships durng the eight-day war games.
The Revolutionary Navy searched a French and an Italian vessel for "environmental" checks, buzzed the U.S. Eisenhower in what American officials called a close encounter, and patrolled the Gulf, also known as the Straits of Hormuz, stopping and checking destroyers and cargo ships.

This is an empty threat:
May 15, 2010: Within the past few weeks, Iran has conducted wargames simulating a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. During these exercises Iran showcased both its maneuvers and green water fleet. Iran is clearly trying to send a message showing the consequences of a military strike on its facilities. However, even if Iran does possess the ability to block the Strait of Hormuz, it would be useless. With Hormuz closed, Iran would choke itself.

Don't the Chi-Coms need that oil more than we do? I mean thanks to BHO the US navy won't be allowed to do anything about the Iranians. But the Chi-Coms will get what they need and they don't care who gets dead in the process.
Of course the PLAN might side with the Iranians in order to make the oil flow. But it is all academic since the USN and RN won't fight. You can't really have a war when one side isn't allowed to shoot.

They wouldn’t close it for very long...most of them will be sleeping with the fishes....
To: Tigen
Of course, why not. They know 0bama is weak. With the U.S. heavy draw-down in military spending and support they know this is the time they can get away with just about anything they can think of.

With Hormuz closed, Iran would choke itself. Sounds good to me. Let's force a confrontation.

Iran is nothing to worry about because they are too slow. Obama and Pelosi will have the job done before Iran is ready to strike.

Virtually all of Iran's imports and exports go through the straits. How long can they last with themselves being cutoff as well?

As pointed out in the last sentance of my post.

I’m not sure that the “powers-that-be” in Iran care about that.

You can't really have a war when one side isn't allowed to shoot. Sure you can. It was done with the Tasmanians.

If Iran went forward with that action, all their ports along the Persian Gulf would soon be smoking holes.

You’re assuming, of course, that we have an AMERICAN administration that would actually think of protecting a strategic AMERICAN national Security asset...
You’d be assuming that, of course...instead of the present reality...

Actually, no....there is a whole lot more oil that transit that area going to other countries besides ourselves...including China. It won’t get closed for long...

Agreed. No crude out = no gas in. Brang it you fuzzy headed little preverts.
