PHOENIX (AP) - The North American Aerospace Defense Command says two F-16 fighter planes intercepted an ultralight aircraft near the U.S.-Mexico border in southwestern Arizona on Sunday.

The aircraft was flying from Mexico and crossed into Arizona just after 6 a.m. The two planes dispatched by NORAD intercepted the aircraft and shadowed it for about 30 minutes until it turned and flew back into Mexico.

Ultralight? One fast pass takes care of that one... one on either side, then watch the show!

An ultralight? Is that like a guy strapped to some wings with a lawnmower engine for power? How much marijuana could he be carrying?

The F16s shadowed the ultralight?

I’m guessing S0 for the F16s is much higher thatn Vne for the ultralight.

“Monitored,” maybe, but not “shadowed.”

......How many middle eastern illegals could it be carrying?.......

My guess....
It was a reconnaissance aircraft directing high value illegals on the ground away from Border Patrol harm.

There are two-seater (fore and aft) UL’s, so I’d say a pilot plus 200# easy.

Why didn’t they just shoot it down?

Exactly. It was a hostile incursion into our airspace and we should have reacted accordingly. Once we start killing enough of these invaders the rest will learn not to come

An ultralight caught back in Oct. 08 in AZ

Aircraft flown over the US/Mexico border busted
with $180,00 of marijuana weighing 223 pounds.

Wrapped in plastic beneath the frame, the marijuana
package was intercepted with state of the art radar.

I didn’t know an F-16 could fly slow enough to “shadow” an ultralight aircraft!
