Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.
Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.
In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."
Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

Whoa! Where is THAT coming from?? That is the antithesis of everything I have said as an ardent pro-lifer.
Is it time to call this conversation quits now? I mean, now that you've started making things up??
I think so. Maybe later....
You are kidding of course, or maybe I'm too old to recognize sarcasm?
Latino Voters are the new backbone of the Democrat Party, and their abortion rates amongst them is second only to African - Americans. Goggle it.
That you can't tell the difference between polite diplomacy and political dogma is disturbing. And that you can't see thru the obvious on-going campaign of Leftist slander against ALL the Republican presidents, surprises me.
And insulting people who know are conservatives, but who dare to believe George Bush was a dedicated conservative who did his best against an avalanche of opposition, "Bushbots" and "in love" is beneath you. I expect it from the usual malcontents who scream "RINO" at every Republican who makes a dumb or diplomatic, unconservative comment to the press, but I thought you at least attempted to check things out.
Wow. This must be an alternate universe. I thought it was the place for conversation and give and take comments.
Sorry I offended you with those innocuous questions.
Note. I am not agreeing to this bizarre demand not to post to pointy head. Just for the record.
LOOK EVERYONE...I DONT THINK WE ALL REALLY BELIEVED WHEN
OBAMA SAID...I WILL FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM THIS COUNTRY!
we are in the midst of a huge shift. OF BIBLICAL PROPORTION
IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER...
READ 2 Timothy 4:3 (ESV)
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
Now I've seen everything. LOL!!
“I have been completely honest, and you know it.”
I know that you are a damned liar, and are now trying to justify it.
A DAMN LIAR.
Dont argue with trolls
Nancy Reagan was not pro-life. She's also a big embryonic stem cell advocate. And, I have read she supports gay marriage, but I haven't seen any quotes directly attributed to her, so it's tough to know conclusively.
As a matter of historical factual accuracy, we have never had a conservative First Lady. Mimi Eisenhower is probably closest, although the social issues of today really didn't exist during her tenure, so it's difficult to tell precisely where she comes down on some of these issues. But, she probably had the most conservative and traditional personal life of any modern-day First Lady.
would you mind sending me some of your research? There are some young people today who think since they went to college are completely stupid about some things, including the global warming hoax agenda.
I tell the truth............and you know it.
btw, why do you keep posting to me? Doesn't that make you a "liar?" :)
Good advice, Texas.....
DO YOU WANT ME TO POST PROOF THAT YOU ARE DAMN LIAR?
Good bye, stephen.
Sure don't blame it on the people who think it's ok to kill babies or redefine marriage or anything.
Of course not, but the media is doing us a favor by showing us who the RINO's are. Just because they occasionally speak the truth doesn't mean THE MEDIA are the ones doing the dividing.
Because she wants to look relevant? Appeal to the left? I dunno. That is very strange.
1rudeboy had a good post about the 72 year(s) shift in economics and political life. While we normally fight like cats and dogs, as I cannot sell goods and services to poor people, his article did make sense out of these crazy times.
(Some of the comments on this thread are ludicrous).
Please explain to me what you meant by this series of comments, other than to say that folks had been unfair to Laura on this issue.
It has been my perception that folks were upset that Laura had come out to support personal choice. And in response you said 'some comments on this thread were ludicrous'.
Why would they be ludicrous, if you are as dismayed with Laura's comment as you intimate you are?
I'm not particularly trying to give you a hard time, but there does seem to be a conflict here.
